Many people might say its myth, However according to muscle and fitness magazine university in the States has been carrying out investigation into spot reduction in training and if it works!!!! The results they got showed that if training one area e.g the legs and then doing cardio after this helps remove the fat from this area by freeing the fat up during the weight training exercise! So what do you guys think?????? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Spot Reduction apparently when you work a specific part, say for instance your abs, fat is released from that are into the blood stream. then when you do cardio, the fat is burnt up. dont know if its true or not, only one way to fins out. what i do know for sure is that helios & hgh both give localised fat loss at injection site. |

Cardio does burn fat as we all know, however as for the body knowing where we want it burned from we can only wish! I do however think that by doing weights e.g working quads on a leg machine in an isolation movement/exercise that it will appear that the fat in this area has been removed as obviously the muscle will get bigger making the muscle to fat ratio much more, thus making it look like the spot reduction is working! This is just what i think anyway and as i say its just my opinion however it could be wrong! |

Sure some areas have less marbling and some areas of muscle have more. I think you can minimise to some degree this marbling, but burning fat and targeting a specific sub-Q fat wont happen.

As a general rule of thumb your genetics are going to control where and how you store fat, and as a result where you lose fat. There are methods of spot fat reduction - subqutenous (I think...) injections of GH, and also 'biosignature modulation', and from everything I've read the latter would tend to indicate it was only suitable for 'class athletes' who needed to spot reduce fat on an area in which fat wasn't highly present anyway (i.e. you shouldn't be able to apply it to a token fatty off the street and give them a fat body and lean abs). A guy called Poloquin I think came up the latter I think? On another note I know of a few people who have gotten lean in certain areas when they've changed jobs which worked different muscles - a plumber who has a massive belly but huge vascular forearms, and a postie who got good sized vascular calves. Both guys previously had just had desk jobs. But yes generally fat just comes off where it wants to.
