HEAD PAINS?!

i was training on tuesday doing shoulder dumbell press. On reaching failure i held on for a second before pressing again. At the top i experienced a crippling pain in my head. i immediately went casualty where i was gven brain scan fearing a hemorrage. the scan was clear. blood tests were clear. A lumbar puncture gave no signs of anything wrong. i was discharged on fri night still none the wiser. Im now paranoid as hell. has anybody else ever heard of or experienced anything remotely like it?

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

it might just have been pressure build up,i get bad headaches sometimes during a hard workout, are you breathing properly when your lifting?but as you say the tests come back ok i wouldnt worry too much mate,it could have even been a nerve.

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

This happened to me last summer while doing seated presses on the machine, reached my failer rep, squeezed for a few seconds and was overcome with the most skull cracking headache ive ever had and for 3 weeks everytime i lifted even the smallest weight pressure in my head built up and the pain kept coming back i was pretty terrified thought i had a brain tumour.
Had tests and scans everything was fine with my brain(lol) but theres a pretty big blood vessel in the rear of your head that takes the brunt of most exersises and it can rupture if your straining to hard for too long or holding your breath or breathing in short pants, its a pressure overload and requires a couple of weeks of rest, you'll be ok just take it easy, dont train,it will heal in time.

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

Please don't take me wrong, but I am so glad i read this thread!

The reason for me looking in the first place was because i was going to post up the same type of thread!

I suffered the exact same extreme head pain last year, and it did get me worried, and put it down to high blood pressure or something, it too happened everytime i would get to a certain level of exertion./

Well, sorry to say, it came back yesterday! Felt like :gun:

I can't believe the intensity of this pain - hard to describe. At least I know I working hard enough eh? :lift: Happenned with me this time on Cable Fly's, basically I done the routine I'd planned but wanted that 'little extra', I'm sure you know what I mean. 3rd set of cable and wham!!!!!!

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

Wow, iv had this too and posted a thread on another board.

I got it 3 weeks ago doing front squats...felt like somebody stabbing all over the top of my skull with a knife. Then dizziness etc. Rested a day, went back and same thing on shoulder press, then gave it four days rest - tried doing chest and it came back at the back of my head mainly this time (everytime i reach failure)

Went docs and they said the usual take a couple of weeks off lol no scans or anything!

Was sh1tting myself to:(

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

Hi guys this head pain thing, is it chronic like a bad headache or acute and very short lasting ie like a lightning strike down the back of the head.

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

All over in my case mate, but initially in the temples. If I stop immediately, and go and do cv or something, it disappears after 5 mins or so. If I persevere, then it stays for quite a long time.

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

Sounds bloody painful mate, wish i could help but agree with above def sounds like a buildup of pressure in the skull.

Re: HEAD PAINS?!

Guys - I had what sounds like the very same thing late 2005. Was DB benching and coming toward the end of the last set when I heard/felt a creek/crack in my head followed by dizzyness. I rested for 10 mins and finished the workout (with much less intensity). Went home and thought nothing of it. Next day after pushing my mates car for 3-4 seconds I got a massive throbbing headache which subsided into a dull but still painfull constant headache. This lasted for approximately 3 months and elevated into the severe throbbing headache with any exertion (walking up stars etc) a CAT scan showed no annurism or abnormality. The consultant put it down to exertional migrane for which I was on sanomigrane (prescribed drug) for over a year.

I couldn't weight train or do any CV for about 8 months. I am fine now having come off the medication about 6-7 months ago. Still very paranoid and unsure as to what it was. Possibly the most dibilitating experience I have ever had.

bkotey - see a nuroligist, or get some sanomigrane perscribed, it helped me! How long have you had it? If its what I had then I know exactly what your going through mate and its outrageous.
