cricked neck

anyone keep getting a cricked neck? Over the last 3 weeks ive cricked my neck in exactly the same place about 15 times. never happens when im training or doin anything strenuous but it seems to happen when Im driving (which aint good!) or at my pc and it bloody hurts. Is it training related or am i doin an exercise wrong. Started doin pulldowns to the back of my neck a few weeks ago and ive since read that these are a def no no, is this true?

Re: cricked neck

I have this very problem as im writing this. The right hand side of the back of my neck is well and truely 'cricked'.
Now coming from a boxing/martial arts training background ive always trained my neck muscles, front, side and back.It helps prevent knockout in boxing/muay thai and gives me a little extra during Judo fights.I like having strong neck muscles and enjoy the excersises that acheive it but its very easy to over do it and pull somthing,as i found out while doing head crunches on the floor in a tight space, completely wrong form.Ive been doing them for over 10 years so should have known better.Neck excersises are not a 'NO NO' its just a very delicate area that should be trained lightly to begin with then built up over time. And any pulls or tweaks should be left to completely heal with a few weeks of rest.

Re: cricked neck

I get it - cracks all the time, but I find I have tension up until cracking point then it feels really good!!!

Slightly off the subject, but since starting weightlifting, when you sneeze does anyone elses entire upper body hurt. I mean from neck, to shoulders all the way down to the tips of your fingers???

Mine do, it bloody hurts!!!

Re: cricked neck

get a really good massage to get the knots out and do regular stretches, look up trigger point therapy on line-basically books about getting small tools to put pressure on tension spots before they flare up into a spasm injury again, i get the same neck thing after some dick dropped his end of the ladder at work years ago-i ended up tweaking my neck as there was no warning he would let it go-the minge!

Re: cricked neck

Probably the worst injury ive had was to my neck, i was should pressing 100+kg and i turned my head only slightly but i just felt a tear right down the back of my neck it killed for weeks, a few good massages sorted it out, a few good massages sort everything out though if you get the right sort of massage

Re: cricked neck

maybe its posture sitting with one arm outstretched (driving with one hand on the wheel, holding a mouse forlong periods) I get it in my shoulder from this, not so much my neck, but if you're off balance it might be one side of your neck doing more work than the other
