Can bruising damage muscle mass?

Only asking because the other day I got studed in football and had a terribly painful dead leg. Then to day I got punched right on the bicep pretty hard and it feels dead and a bit painful.

Can bruising damage muscle tissue and mass?

Cheers

Re: Can bruising damage muscle mass?

Bruising is caused by a heamatoma, that is a pool of blood just under the skin. The reason for this is that small blood vessels (capillaries) within the muscle have been damaged and until your platelets stopped the flow, they leaked blood into your tissues. There may be some associated and minor muscle damage, which will be sore and should be rested but will not affect your gains.
