Liquid from nose - UK-Muscle Body Building Community

Wasn't sure were to put this one, since Wednesday night before i was to start work it felt like i was having a nose bleed, so i ran my hand under to see no blood, just a clear water like liquid only coming from the left side of my nose.
This happens 2-3 times aday, anyone have any ideas wot it could be?

Ok Romeo, have you had any blows to head or anything like that?

This is ringing a bell, and I would get this checked out ASAP.

It may just be rhinitis, like inflamed/infected sinuses, allergic reaction, but clear water like fluid from the nose could be CSF, or cerebral spinal fluid.

This in itself may not be dangerous, don't quote me on it though, however if you are leaking, that means bacteria and viruses could get in and you are at greater risk for meningitis.

GO TO Doc ASAP.

I would even do my time in AE for this one mate

It's not coming out all the time, every now and then, blows to head, hmmmmmmmmm lol.
Cheers T for the info, if it gets worse i'll send my sorry **** to the docs.

Sounds like a runny nose to me.
Probably allergies.
Clear liquid is usually no problem.
Now if it was green or yellow then I would be a bit more concerned (sinus infection).

Look clear fluid could at the best just be clear runny snot, or at the worse, it could be CSF.

Romeo, does it seem different than snot you have had before. I thought you might ask cause it is different than usual.

you should never stop anything other than blood coming out of an orrifice in your body!

its your bodt getting rid so if you stop it then who knows what damage (if any) you are doing!!

Tatyana - you're absolutely right that if this was CSF it would be extremely serious since it would indicate a basal skull fracture (it's an immediate 999 job and amongst other things keeping the person still whilst waiting [manual inline spinal immobilistion if you've been taught]). Thankfully I don't think that this is Romeo's problem. Mainly since there is no mechanism to suggest such an injury has occurred. In addition to the blow to the head you asked about another common cause would be a person falling from a height and landing on their feet, legs straight. It would take a serious force to cause a basal skull fracture. There would likely be other signs and symptoms too.

For information, in practise when you are unlucky enough to see CSF I am told it is usually mixed with blood, so rather than seeing a first aid manual described "straw coloured fluid" you're likely to see a kind of watery looking blood.

Romeo - if it doesn't clear up or it's concerning you go and see your GP.
