Hey mars, I am not questioning you please dont take it that way, but if you are training grip in other excercises surely it would not hurt to use these on dead lifts?

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

Beklet .. I really have tiny hands for a man and I can pull 200kg with no straps .. just work at it and the grip strength will come.

Yeti Man .. these hooks may help in the short term but when you start working up to big weights then they will just hurt your wrists and will be more of a hindrance.. honestly invest some time in building up your grip strength and you won't need these things .. you'd be surprised how quickly your grip will build up. You will also be able to 'feel' the lift better if you are actually gripping the bar. A tip if you use an alternate grip .. swap hands between sets so you are giving equal work to both sides.

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

Thanks for your comments,

I haven't actually tried an alternate grip yet but I doubt it will make too much difference. I have teeny hands, probably much smaller than yours marsbar....!!!!! And your grip is bound to be stronger anyway because you're male!

But I will try it and see how I get on.

I do have chalk from my climbing days but not overly keen on taking my little pouch to the gym with me tbh.

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

I used to use straps all of the time. Then I trained at the ministry of muscle where James made me deadlift just using chalk! I gave my straps away as my grip strength has gone up a huge amount and my forearms have responded nicely too.

Thanks Luke,

Appreciated mate, I guess currently I'm using an overhand grip, by swapping to underhand (or however it's referred to) maybe that will help!

Not doing deads again for a few more days but will update how I get on!

Kate .. alternate means one hand overhand and one hand underhand ..as others have said you will be surprised what a difference it makes .. and use the chalk!!!!

Re; hand size .. honestly I have tiny hands (my 13 year old daughters hands are the same size) but you can still build a decent grip with small hands.

And here's a clip that shows women can have strong hands too:

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

well done on the lifts...

as for the alternate grip debate.... i used to use it but on trap became disproportionate to the other, maybe i was doing it incorrectly. i suppose i was because i didnt alternate my alternate grip if you get me!

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

kate - i use wraps after being recommended them and they are working v well - espeically on deadlifts when my weight went over 60kg. The guys that recommended chalk, great idea but not really suitable in the non-bodybuilding gyms that we use.

BabyYoYo, try this link. Shows how to deadlift but most importantly demonstrates the best grip to use

Re: Baby Yoyo's Journal with pics

a lot of gyms hate it though luke, i have trained places before and they dont even like you deadlifting more than 3 plates each side, even if you don't bang the weights.... not that i go much above 3 plates to be honest.
