| On the first step | Counting Oils Hey folks, Just curious how people generally allow for the amount of oil/fat consumed. For example, if I use a tablespoon of olive oil in making a stir fry (and sesame oil also), Ill add 14g of fat ea (so 28g). As I make this dish for two, thats like 14g of fat each. But, on cooking and serving, some of the fat remains in the pan. So, Im wondering how most people factor this in? do you just count the whole lot added, or reduce the consumed amount by a percentage to allow for wastage?

Then I let the chicken rest on some kitchen paper to absorb the remaining fat. I just use a dessert spoon to measure the quantities rather than a massive tablespoon. 14g seems a little too much oil to use to me tbh.

| On the first step | Re: Counting Oils Well, this is cooking I think (from memory) 400g of chicken followed by various veg. I use a similar amount (though not the sesame oil) if Im cooking mince (though that contains alot of fat itself and I usually drain off the liquid while cooking). Like I say though, these are measurements when cooking for two. Its more a dessert spoon Im using actually. But Ive not got a way to measure the actual amount Im adding at the moment, though the recipe I use says 15ml which gives 14g of fat so I use those figures knowing it will be under. Its like the mince though. Worked out at 47g of fat for 500g of lean mince. Now that is halved per two people and so 23.5g of fat each. But, while cooking I drain off as much excess liquid as I can so Im not sure of the actual amount of fat consumed. End result is I suppose Im eating a % less of fat each meal than I record.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Counting Oils Buy some cheap electronic scales. About £15-20. I don't use any oil when cooking mince. No need. Just add the mince on low heat in a wok and let it create its own oil. I use a wok for all my frying, don't know if it makes any difference or not though.
