Thinking about ATKINS DIET

Ok i have returned to weights after a long period and have been training again for about 8 months, i have gained some muscle and lost some body fat but i really just want to strip the rest of the bodyfat off now as it is taking to long for me......

Ive just finished a prop/tren/winny cycle and currently on pct.I wont to start another cycle in 8 weeks and would love to be alot leaner at that time.

Basically i want to know if i would loose muscle on the atkins, this diet is mostly protein anyway which builds muscle so i was thinking that maybe if i do atkins to the book but eat a hell of alot more chicken and eggs then would i be able to loose the fat and keep the muscle...........chicken and egg amounts are not limited on atkins.

Atkins (as written in the book) for bodybuilding is not a great idea. HOWEVER, a cyclical ketogenic diet is an excellent idea. This is basically atkins with a weekly carb-up. Take a look here: http://www.c-k-d.com

It's actually what I'm running at the moment for cutting. You do have to keep the fats very high, and the protein moderate (putting the protein high would cause the body to convert the protein to glucose which will kick you out of ketosis and eliminate the purpose of the diet) and eliminate all carbs apart from on the weekly carb-up.

You will need to get some ketostix to ensure you get into ketosis each week if you're going to run a ketogenic diet. You also can't be afraid to eat a LOT of fats from eggs, mayo, butter, pork, oils etc etc.

It's very effective, but is also a pretty technical way of dieting, so the best thing you can do is go to the url I gave above and read the forums there, and come up with a meal-plan from that.

i agree with Big on the atkins diet for bodybuilders....

i prefer a Carb Cycling approach which is not that diffrent to what Big is suggesting....apart from the amount of fats.....

to be honest and i don't know what you are eating but if anybody restricted the amount of carbs to some degree in their diet they will lose fat that is fact but some cannot restrict carbs too much as it effects their training and that is not what you want..

good info from both you guys here

i got a book recently by Dan Duchaine, in it he goes into both suggetions you have put up, he talks about carb cycling, and two different options on the Atkins type, 1 where you eat Atkins style for 5 days and have a 2 day carb up, and another where you do 6 days atkins style and 1 day carb up.

I got on okay on both, i might try the carb cycling next, but i want to find out about fat loss from other routes to aid the process.

I'd say a better bet would be to cycle your carbs, keep them low four days, higher for 2 then double them for 1. For example, set a level, say 200g for your low days, allows you to function like a normal human being. 300g for your 2 higher days then 400g for the last day. Going low carbs allows you to burn more bodyfat for energy, and after 3-4 days your metabolism starts to slow down. Bumping up your carbs tricks the body into thinking youre off the diet and your metabolism cranks up again. Then your back on the low carbs with a fast metabolism. Worked well for me, i tried the atkins and lost sh8tloads of weight, but felt like i dropped a tonne of muscle too. If your after quick weightloss, go for the atkins though
