Drinking Whilst Dieting?

Hey,

Im trying to lose some weight and put on some muscle generally just look and feel a bit better about myself and have just started doing one of the diets I saw on here.

Meal 1: Yoghurt, cottage cheese, banana, whey smoothie
Meal 2: 4 eggs
Meal 3: Tuna, salad, fruit x2 (avoid bananas)
Meal 4: Chicken breast, brocolli
Meal 5: Lean Beef/Chicken or Fish, Veg x2 (not carrots)
Meal 6: as one without banana.

One cheat day per week - eat and drink what you want.

I was wondering how drink fits into these sort of diets (by this I mean alcoholic drinks) is it allowed? If so how much?

I find that I put on a lot of weight through drinking even the smallest amount of beer so Ive cut it out for the time being completly. I go out twice on week on average, once on a Friday where I tend to drink a fair bit (probably around 12-16 shots of spirits throughout the course of a night) and once on a Sunday where I will have a couple of drinks.

Can I get away with this, or is it going to screw my diet up?

I weigh around 12 stone at the moment, maybe just slightly over and im nearly 5ft 10 in height. I dont do much in the way of excersice at the moment other than walking for about 30 mins a day on average, and weights in my room for about 20 mins a day.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Dan

Each shot comes in at around 170 cals, but I'm sure not all is absorbed by the system as it passes through much faster than food. If you want to drink then you'll just have to factor this into your diet plan; I have 3+ beers a night but am not gaining - I guess it all comes down to trial and error. 12- 16 does sound like a lot though so you may want to reduce for health's sake.

In my system I allow my clients to have one glass of wine or beer a night, again as long as it is factored in its fine, but if you use any liver affecting substances don't drink .

I tried drinking white wine when I went ut because of the lower calorie count to pints and alchopops. Got teased. Lasted one round before back to usual poison!

Obviously if you don't drink all the better, but it comes down to lifestyle choices at the end of the day.

when dieting you should not drink at all....alchol reduces fat breakdown by 50% plus if you are dieting you are trying to acheive a goal why make that harder by drinking just lay off the booze for the duration of the diet...

Im dieting right now and do have some wine.
I dropped the beer as I tend to guzzle it and then I end up drinking too many.
But I drink wine because I dont like it all that much and I dont guzzle.
I still lose on 2 glasses a night.
Abuse will kill dieting gains.

^^^ what he said!

Also, it's said that alcohol reduces natural test production, not to mention the liver effects.

I don't know why anyone who's seriously interested in bodybuilding would drink heavily to be honest.

Hackskii if you do that and still lose and you are happy with it mate don't change a thing my point really was i speak to loads of guys who want to lose weight so i make a diet for them and supps plan and on their refeed day they go out on the town and binge drink or they have a cpl of Buds every night with their last meal and when they don't make their target weight they blame the diet i have advised it is only when i ask if they have been drinking and they say they have i realise where the problem lies....

i have been dieting 20 weeks up until last sunday i have not touched a drop of alchol (apart from the wine before the comp for vascularity) in the whole diet and i acheived what i set out to acheive now you might say well your an experianced BB and you was dieting for a comp but i just want to lose weight for my hols or a photo shoot to me the the goal is the same so why lengthen the process or make it harder by drinking just obstain for a few weeks/months acheive your goals and then enjoy it really is that simple....

i am going out on sat night to get well and truly ****ed to celebrate my birthday which was 3 weeks ago but i don't care because i am approx 5%body fat iand i have just placed top 6 in the uk finals....

I have been drinking for 24 years.
I have been lifting for 28 years.
This is just one of those things that I am going to do.
Id like to stop but this is one my my crosses I bear.

Yes those empty calories are not doing me any good and neither does the slowing down of the metabolism by taking in a depressant.
Not to mention that alcohol also lowers testosterone levels as well.

If my losses are compromised then they are compromised.
I did have to cut the beer as I was getting an overproduction of yeast.
So I switched to wine (merlot) and I do like the taste but I sip it and I dont drink as much as my beer.

Dieting comes easy for me but I do have to have a very structured eating schedule and if I stick my mind to something It will happen.

At this point in time I am losing 3 lbs a week for 6 weeks.
Went from 218 to 199 in 6 weeks.
I think the 3 lbs a week is too much so If the wine slows this down some Im still not going to stress on it.

I have overdrank and overfed for probably 8 years and now I am going to reel it back in. That amount of time abusing my body put me at probably 23-25 % bodyfat
Im going to shoot for 10% and see how I look then go on a cycle.

But for the record I do feel if I did drop the alcohol I will lose easier and allow me to take in more calories that have some nutritional content.

my opinions on this thread where not intended at a dig at yourself mate..we all have our crosses to bear but my point was and still is that when someone asks for help with dieting and then negates all that help by drinking alcahol whilst already admitting that they put on weight when they drink is just a waste of time if you cannot lose weight then stop drinking all together,,,,,

you seem to be able to lose weight whilst moderatly drinking which is fine for you and i am sure i could lose weight if i drank aswell but most cannot and instead of stopping or admitting it is the drinks fault for the lack of progress they try to find fault in the diet or look to add other substances to aid fatloss ....

Thumbs up Pscarb, you are spot on!

Pscarb, I actually do agree with you 100%

Ah Ps, I never took it as a dig;)
I have been around the block many times and have very thick skin considering how sensitive I am

I didnt take it the wrong way.
What I do others shouldnt. I should have stated that.

Drinking is not in the bodybuilders plan for things.

Getting hammered will not aid in fat loss and is actually couterproductive if you want to lose.

Ps, I agree with you and totally respect your judgement, and I should have stated that what I am doing does not apply to others.

fairy nuff mate ...

i feel strongly about this for one reason 2 yrs ago i put in a lot of time and a bit of money to help a freind prep for a show...i spent a lot of time trying to get him in condition he was not reacting well to the diet i was giving him...he didnt place well and he took it badly and in a way blamed me for the lack of his success...it was not until we was round his place a month later when his missus made a comment about him being able to drink whilst dieting the look on his face was classic as his missus spilt the beans......this sort of thing happens all the time and then like i said before guys then use harder more dangerouse substances like Clen/EPH/Throid meds/DNP.....

cheers Hackskii i tend to say things a bit bluntly i wanted to make sure i was not offending anybody....
