Omega fats and losing weight

Hi all! I am trying to lose as much weight as I can in 4 weeks. For the past month I've been on a high protein/low carb diet, combined with weight training and cardio just about every day. So far I've lost about 15 lbs and 4% body fat. I was taking a tablespoon of flax seed oil a day and using olive oil for cooking. I realize these are healthy fats that help in burning the bad fats but it is still fat nonetheless and adding about 50g of extra fat to my daily diet.

What I would like to know is, all things being equal, am I going to lose more weight or less weight if I were to completely eliminate the flax seed and olive oil from my diet? I've heard that some bodybuilders take up to 10 tablespoons of omega 3,6,9 fatty oil supplements a day (usually in the form of Udo's oil) to help cut down for a competition! That's over 100g of fat a day!

Can someone please shed some light on the subject or does anyone have any experience taking flax seed oil for weight loss.

Thanks!!!

You would probably lose more weight in the short-term if you eliminated them as you'd be taking in less calories, but it would NOT be fat weight you'd be losing - it would most likely be a mix of fat, water and lean mass. Eventually your metabolism would slow down to compensate, and you'd reach a stalling point. Then what do you do?

Your body needs fuel. If you don't take in carbs or fats, your body will start using protein for fuel and/or will start catabolising your muscle. Protein is a very inefficient and very expensive fuel. So you take in fats for fuel. This promotes burning of fats by your body, and your body will burn a combination of the fats you're consuming, plus your body fat.

So in summary - don't eliminate the fats from your diet. Make sure you are taking in the right number of calories from the right foods, and you'll lose fat. If you're unsure, post up your diet.

Fats are your friend mate. Fish oils (omega 3) will raise hdl's (good cholesterol) and lower ldl's (bad cholesterol). Try and keep the omega 3's and omega 6's about the same.
