refeed/high carb days

I had my refeed day yesterday and enjoyed huge amounts of oats, jacket potatoes and homemade flapjack during the day and night also had a pizza etc for my tea. i looked like i was 6 months pregnant before i went to bed.

i awoke this morning to do my am cardio and i am starving lol. you would think after all that food i wouldnt be hungry this morning especially as the scales say im 6 pound heavier than yest morning.

just curiouse if its like this for other people as well.

Re: refeed/high carb days

how are you cycling, just curious as I go from High, Low, No and then repeat.

Rather than 6 no/low days, followed by 1 mega high carb filled refeed day.

Although on my high days I do feel like a fatty haha

Re: refeed/high carb days

Its normal to feel hungry the morning after a refeed day imo.

Your body it getting used to all them carbs again and want the intake to continue.

Even though you have replenished some of your glycogen stores you haven't fully replenished then and this is what your body is trying to do.

I would think you have also temporally switched the bodys emphasis from burning mostly fat for fuel to burning carbs for fuel, so now your body is looking for carbs again, it will soon get back to burning fat for fuel though.

Re: refeed/high carb days

I keep my two refeeds per week relatively clean & at about 3000 cals, I don't seem to ever feel really hungry, even on a no carb day (I just crave carbs & eat my bodyweight in sugarfree gum to get me through).

Go easy on the sugar free gum mate as it's not like it used to be. It is now jammed with maltitol mannitol and other polyols. Although sugar free it is not calorie free. Apparently polyols don't affect blood sugar levels but in my opinion a calories a calorie.

I posted up an article from a site about it a while ago on here.

I hope somebody tells me there fine, then i can do the same

Colin

Re: refeed/high carb days

I had problems with bloating after refeeds, especially since the carbs made me thirsty and I drank tons of water. This made me panic next day thinking my abs would disappear forever. Then a member of this site suggested I do the refeed with oats and sweet potato in the evening. It worked, no bloating next day and no panic!

Re: refeed/high carb days

you should feel bloated on a refeed day as you need to jumpstart the metabolism after it has hit the deck from low carbs no point calling it a refeed day if you don't refeed

Bulkaholic!

Thanks for the tip, I eat probably a packet & half per day on average & while I'm still losing consistently reluctant to drop them yet - The million dollar question though: Is the nutritional advice on the back of the packet based on you swallowing the gum, or is that what you get just from chewing & spitting out???

Re: refeed/high carb days

Beefcake, Thats a good question there. The main thing with Polyols is they have no impact on blood sugar levels so don't cause the spike that raw sugar would. I would assume diabetics and the like could take them but they do have overall calories. It's hard to see the real effect they have as most data is backed by the manufacturers.

This said if your losing mate at the rate your happy with then leave them in if they keep you sane. If you have an impending deadline like me and need to come in very fast then every single calorie counts and wouldn't risk it.

Cheers

Colin

No deadline yet, I just wanted to see if I had the mental strength to get into condition - and also try some things, see what works for me etc before I take the plunge (I want to do a 2009 show first timers category).

Re: refeed/high carb days

Nice move mate, getting in a lean condition before hand is good news I have cut from 20% for a first show and not something I recommend. I think it will be around 20 weeks dieting when finished

Good luck with the comp mate

Re: refeed/high carb days

And to you, which show are you doing - I've never been to one yet, just watched a few you tube vids & old DVD's. I need to go & see what the crack is beforehand (I'm a stickler for being prepared) & wouldn't mind coming to watch?
