Fat burning zone

I read somewhere on here about what is an effective 'speed' is to fast walk on the treadmill for fat burning.

After my usual workout I did 2 miles at 4mph today as that's what I remembered reading - is that about right?

Re: Fat burning zone

fat burning zone doesnt exist mate as a number or % to fit everyone

if you have fat to lose, get in a calorie deficit from diet and do some cardio, dont go mad on either

Re: Fat burning zone

I was a bit confused about the whole fat burning zone thing cos some people say it exists and some don't. I hate cardio so have been doing 15 mins low intensity after weights workouts hoping that will do something!

Will have to have more of a read about it I think.

Re: Fat burning zone

The zone is just a certain % of your max heart rate *googles*
This page explains it http://www.brianmac.co.uk/hrm1.htm

The reason is that at a certain speed your body needs to use the most readily available energy source which is blood sugar and leads to no bodyfat "loss" but you can go at a certain pace (typically slow and steady) which will allow the body to use alternative sources like liver glycogen.

Thanks for the input.

Looks like I'll just have to play it by ear.

People aren't wrong on purpose Lost Soul. Instead of criticising someone trying to help, how about sharing the correct knowledge with the rest of the board.

The 'wrong' was directed at the article, not the poster
if you want some reading look at substrate utilisation and the answer comes up
