nigs66 has a spectacular aura aboutnigs66 has a spectacular aura about
carb timing

currently on carb cycling but have a question about when to take carbs on my low day.
im taking 50g carbs on low days, would it be best to take the 50g carbs first thing at breakfast or should some be taken post training, i had been taking 30g carbs from oats for breakfast and 20g carbs from dextrose post training, which way would be best to go or should i stay at 30g breakfast and 20g after training with protein shake.
i train at 5pm if this matters.

Re: carb timing

Yes but if your training it will matter when you take it to ensure glycogen replenishment

PWO is fine but to suggest anytime (ie 8pm at night if you have trained at 7am) is not ideal

Re: carb timing

On low carb day i'd go with post work out. 50grams isn't alot and they would be best ustilised for replenishment at this point

it is horrible, im craving for bags of crisps constantly, but the sight of fat going and my abs starting to peak through makes up for it.

some people take all their carbs first thing in the morning when dieting, i prefer to split em ..... but wouldnt the glycogen be replenished whatever time you take them??

Re: carb timing

50g/day seems really low. I've been carb cycling for a few weeks now and never drop below 178g/day, and that's bad enough!

In terms of when you consume your carbs, avoid anything starchy or sugary after about 18:00 if you can. Fibrous carbs can be eaten as late as you like.

Re: carb timing

I have been carb cycling and have found adding a little bit of carb with each of my small meals is working really well. On low days I cook up a bag of the micro wholemeal pasta, divide that over 3/4 small meals. WOn't get through it all if i have oats in the morning. I find this keep me switched on all day and i don't get energy slumps.
