![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Competition prep Since going to the NABBA west show I have decided to start competing. I just felt the buzz all day long and it has really focused me with something to aim for. I plan to enter NABBA west next year as I need some more mass before competing. My question is about cutting. I am on a cut at the moment to shed some fat for summer and to see if I can keep the discipline. I want to see what needs work for next year so want to strip fat but also don’t want to eat away too much muscle with no good reason. How far should I cut for assessing areas that need addressing or does that need to be competition condition to get a real idea? I know my upper arms and legs are the main area obvious right now. Any help or advice much appreciated I have pics of now in my cutting log but they will be of little help as I am at around 17-18% at moment so all well hidden Cheers Colin |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Competition prep well 1stly...you are in the exact same position i was in last year, NABBA WEST was where i decided i wanted to compete. i personally would get training, not dieting.....a diet can be made for u that will work. get any weaknesses up in the next year.

| Superman | Re: Competition prep Mate being weeks out from my first show my biggest advice is either and this is the better choice get a prep guy or if your like me and think you can do every thing your self do a couple of mini diets now and find which works aka keto carb cycling ext or else you may end up prepping for closer to 6 months than 3 due to ****ing up several times. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Competition prep I see both of your points so now i am even more confused. The idea of the cut i am on at present was to see how much muscle is really under the fat and i have a feeling it's not that much. I think the carb cycling route is definately the route for me as followed a diet from Paul Scarborough and it's the fastest i have ever stripped fat away. (also growing at same time )I was planning to cut for a further 8 weeks but maybe i should play it a little more cautious and see where i get in 4. I am assuming a small amount of rebound will also be there to take advantage of. I am on hols end of july so having to plan some apsects carefully ![]() Cheers Colin |

My advice mate is to keep going as you are if you think the way you are eating is maintainable long term? are you following the diet 7 days a week of Mon-Fri? i would not be dieting just to bulk then to cut like i said above this diet your on now is working to strip away but add muscle then stick with it, just concentrate on your weak points to improve them... the show is normally at the end of April so a diet of 12 weeks would need to start at the start of Feb so you could generally clean things up straight after the new year then get stuck into the diet at the 12 week mark.....

sun low mon low tues med wed low thurs med fri low sat refeed low = 300p 50c 90f med = 250p 200c 70f (increased carbs from 175) refeed = 200p 600c 50-75f I am guessing I am gaining muscle whilst losing fat as i dropped from 103kg down to 98kg in first few weeks then added a little assistance. now back up to around 99-100kg and body fat is dropping. Main reason for cutting was i have been fat for years really and was just wanted to look good. I now have a different motivation and want to be the best i can next year. So i take it there is no milage in cutting to see whats under there? I think your right about not labelling it. I will carry on as is and monitor muscle size and keep taking pics on my cutting log. My bi's have shrunk over an inch since cutting but I think thats fat. I would like to stick to carb cycing anyway as it really seems to suit me. I was thinking of upping the carbs (when progress halts) and leave other intake same. I was thinking this may aid a clean bulk as i would like to remain around 15% all the way through. Is there still abenefit to a refeed when carbs are higher? I am guessing it wont be needed due to leptin levels not dropping? Anyway thanks for the advice. Colin | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Competition prep Cheers Paul, I will stick to curent diet for now until results slow. I will clean bulk but not afraid of a little fat as the end result is what matters. I will be careful not to make myself sick of diet although the cycling diet is much better to follow for this reason. Definately need refeed to keep me sane though:crazy: Cheers Colin |

![]() | Re: Competition prep Colin, Keep us posted on your diet and how it goes. I am very intrested to see how it goes. I am in a similiar position to you. I have decided to compete after watching the UKBFF Stars of Tomorrow show in November. I have always been around 12% to 14% body fat as eating like it is my job to gain size for the show. I have never really done any cardio or diet to lose BF to see what my weakness's are so I can address them. However if I can lose BF and gain muscle still I might give this a go. Good luck Mike

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Competition prep I will keep everyone posted on my cutting log in members pictures section. I have to be careful in saying i am gaining muscle. It could be water weight from my 'supplementation'. I will say though my legs are definatley growing as i managed to get a pair of jeans on the other day from years ago. done up waist ok but couldn't move legs due to being so tight around thighs ![]() High volume seems to agree with my legs just need to find right formula for upper body now. Cheers Colin |

![]() | Re: Competition prep Im still experimenting with the number of sets and reps with my training. For the last 6 weeks I have been pyramid sets. For example for chest I will do 4 different exericises, 4 sets for each using reps 15, 12, 10, 8 with maybe a drop set on the last set. It feels good as the 15 and 12 rep sets give you a good pump and then the 10 and 8 rep sets really work the muscle, especially with the drop set. It doesnt work for everyone but you dont know until you try it.
