Losing Weight/Gaining muscle, Possible?

Hey guys, was browsing some websites and i came to a link to this one awhile back.

(I'm American, so if you don't understand something i said, just tell me lol)

I currently weigh 165 pounds, and am looking to drop fat, but gain muscle. I was just interested to know if this is even possible, and what i should do to achieve my goal. I've been doing cardio vigorously every day for twenty minutes for about three weeks, and have lost about 5 pounds. Every other day i lift weights, usually do 4 sets of 12 reps on the bench and some curling and such.

I think its my diet thats getting me.
So... any suggestions on what i should do to improve my training (IE: Routine)
And... (completely unrelated): I don't really have too many free weights, and no means to join a gym. So... what should i do with my limited amount of weights. (Like exercises that don't use weights, pushups and stuff like that)

I've been browsing these forums for about a month now and have already gotten some ideas, but have always been afraid to post =P.

Thanks =)

Re: Losing Weight/Gaining muscle, Possible?

I've seen it done, but only while mega dosing bcaa/eaa, and having some pretty good nutrient partitions.

Do chad waterburys 10*3 imo.

Re: Losing Weight/Gaining muscle, Possible?

Welcome to the forum....Don't worry you have plenty of options...The fact that you don't have many weights or access to a gym will make this tricky but this site is full of expierance so it will all fall into place eventually...First diet...I'm not gonna be much help to you there but I'd suggest reading the stickies in the diet section for starters. I would up the walk time to 45 min to 1 hr. I'm gonna end this post to see what others throw in and think about a routine that you can accomplish with out weights...Best of luck...

Re: Losing Weight/Gaining muscle, Possible?

I would concentrate on one then the other and not both mate.

Do one for a few months then the other after. Swap when you've either reached i) the gains you're happy with or ii) the body fat you require.

If not, I think you'll spend a huge amount of time making very little to no noticable progress in either direction and get frustrated with the whole thing.

Re: Losing Weight/Gaining muscle, Possible?

Yes, if you pick the right routine, and the right diet, unless you're very advanced, you will build muscle and lose fat simultaneously.

At 165, you should be getting stronger, leaner and more muscular if you're doing things properly.

Big is spot on here (right on for you American dude).
What he is saying is when you first start out resistance training then you will gain muscle quite easily.
If the diet is on and resistance training is good, then yes.

Too much cardio is not the part of the equation here tho.
The body adapts to stimilus.
Resistance training can cause fat loss for 3 days.
First day is the exercise, bodyfat will be burned to some degree, but the next two days when the body is rebuilding it is burning calories, and mostly from fat.
Not to mention the adaptive responce from resistance training.
Resistance training is telling the body to do something, usually it is the body saying it needs to build muscle.
So, what is going on is the body is building muscle at the same time it is burining fat to accomidate that muscle.
Yes it can be done.
Especially a new guy that is new to resistance training.

Carido is fine, but I do think you can lose without it and when you stall you can add it, same with fat burners.
Try using the big compound exercises to yield the best bang for your buck.

Good luck.........
