Great Site,Advice Needed For Old PRO

Hi Guys,

Great site!

I'm 37,played Rugby & Football very competitively for 20 years up until around 6 years ago and since then have trained quite iregularly since.

My weight has yo-yo'd and i have gone from a playing weight of 15 stone to now being 17 stone 5.I'm 6'4 and in the last month have started a gym regimen which includes cardio 5 times a week(lactate threshold/speed/hills + 2 or 3 slow easy runs, all on treadmill) but i'm not seeing the weight loss that i've experienced in the past. And i've given up smoking in the last 5 weeks.

Now i've lost around 6lbs in the 5 weeks of training, and expected a lot more as i've pretty much stuck to a low gi diet(with the odd Friday chippy tea thrown in granted but in the next 8 weeks leading up to summer i want to be cut,and get my weight down to at least 16 stones, preferably 15.

After my Cardio sessions(all around the 45-60 min mark, and between 7-9 RPE) i do weight machines, all over body, from lat pull downs, bicep curls etc etc, with fairly low weight,3 sets of 10 reps and have seen quite a decent improvement in tone and shape.

I've been toying with the idea of fatburners/radically reducing calories/ketosis etc but to be honest i dont know which to do,if any are needed,or whether any of the guys on the board would know what my rough calorie intake currently is,and what i should be aiming for to get to my desired weight. My cardio work is great, and i tend to get cardio fit very quick but i'm just not losing the weight.

Years ago before a training camp i did only cardio for a month with a heavily restricted calorie intake(basically raisins, and some fruit, crazy i know) and lost a lot of muscle, power and strength but got doen to a weight i was happy with.

In a nutshell,to get to 16 or even better 15 stone from 17.5 in the next 6 weeks say, what is the safest route? And what "must do" tips would you guys recommend?

Any advice greatfully received!

Cheers Again

Tom
