Treadmill

When doing low intensity cardio to burn fat on the treadmill, for example what i do.
30 mins, incline 5 and speed 7.5, should i keep hold of the heart rate moniter or just walk without holding onto anything ?

If this is the case, i will have to lower 7.5 as it will be to fast to walk without holding on.

You shouldn't hold on when using a treadmill as you make it easier for yourself by holding up some of your weight.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Going to have to reduce the speed then. Its going to be a right effort not holding on for 30 minutes but o well.

4-5 mph brisk walk should be good enough for 30 mins...without killing yourself!

I did the speed on 6 and incline on 5 for 30 mins and i only just broke little sweat.

I dont really know to much about heart rates good for fat burning etc.
When i have held the sensors in the past week, it was around 147, which seems very high to me, seen as though i didnt break a sweat. Dont know wether to trust the treadmill.

147 is a bit high for just burning fat. you want a brisk walk.

Im not unfit. Thats the thing. Dont know how my heart rate got that high though. More then 2 bps is very high isnt it. I felt my heart and it just felt like my resting heart rate.

So all in all, i wouldnt go off the treadmill.

147bpm is a steady run for me.


I wouldn't expect the treadmill to be 100% accurate, but I wouldn't expect it to be far off either.

Ideally you would want to be at around 65% of your max heart rate for fat burning. A 4-5mph walk on the treadmill will suffice with an incline of 5, like you had it at before. Do this for 45 mins a day and you'll be able to sustain it.

The treadmill is in kph so where looking at between 7 and 8 kph.

The incline doesnt seem to have an effect, going to have to experiment. When i did speed 6 for example, i doubt my heart rate went over 100 bpm.
