Eggs, Soy, Tofu (dishes http://www.tofu.com/recipes.html).
Chicken, Fish, Salmon (fish), nuts.
Certain combinations of foods can result in a complete protein source.
Or you can get some of the protein supplements like (soy protein, and whey protein, milk and egg protein), they are powders and dont taste that bad.

I am not a vegetarian, so I am not sure I can help you that much, sorry!

Hi Jeff,

you are not asking much at all - sure it is a dramatic change in your dietary habits, but bite bullet and you'll be fine if not better - this is assuming you are new to the game.

Don't start by putting your situation down, rather take it to your advantage - plenty of good non-meat food out there. There are loads of vegan and vegetarian bodybuilders out there who have shown with their example that you don't need to eat animals to be big, strong or otherwise do well in sports.

Some examples could be the following two geezers:

Andreas Cahling:

Bill Pearl:

first thing you need to do is to do some research, for me starting to do bodybuilding and powerlifting the change wasn't too bad because i've already been vegan for 10 years. All i needed to do was to adapt the information and research i was reading to vegan diet.

Luckily nowdays there are quite a few web sites out there with good info. Just as an example one article:
http://www.vrg.org/journal/vj2003iss...sue4weight.htm
(good general article on non-meat nutrition and weight lifting)

for losing weight - or anything else for that matter - the same basic rules apply whether you eat meat or not:
- Watch your calorie intake and adjust it according to how you are progressing
- Cut down on processed carbs and fats, instead eat plenty of good low GI carbs and healhy fats (like olive oil, flax seed oil - and fats from nuts and seeds in general).
- dring plenty of water
- rather than eating couple times a day, try to eat often, every 2-3 hours smaller meals to keep your metabolism up

and so on. Nothing fancy, no latest dietary fads, no tricks, just basic common sense and occasionally hard work as well in form of cardio, every day activity and resistance training.

Good luck bro!

Thanks for the input, its good to see im not the only one trying to lift on a non-meat diet. Alot of good information, thanks!

Also, since you mentioned it, what is really the purpose behind flaxseed oil? Ive heard flaxseed is good for fiber is flaxseed oil basically the same thing or what?

Thanks!
