Diet advice and general Q's

Hi,

I am trying to cut for the 1st time. Aim is to lose the love handles and blubber around the waist line (in know spot reduction is impossible) but also to keep as much muscle mass as possible. Also, I want to develop my abs more....I currently do no abs training:(

Stats:
Age: 23
weight: 82kgs / 174lbs
Height: 5"10

What do u guys think of this:

11am Wake up - coffee (3tea spns with milk)
11.30 Cardio - about 30mins running (not as fit as i once was..but will continuously increase length, speed)
12.00 Post Cardio - 50g whey in water + glucose
12.15 Brekky: 6 eggs (2 yolks), tuna, brown bread (2 slices)
3pm Pre work out meal: 25g whey + 2 desert spoons Oats
3.30 Weights training High intensity, lower weights more reps, shorter rests, higher heart rate.
4.30 Post work out - 50g whey in water + 50g Glucose
5.00 dinner high protein + white carbs I.e. chicken and white rice.
8.00 Meal of brown carbs and protein
12pm 50g whey+ Cottage cheese (100g) + table spoon peanut butter
1am sleep

Ques:

1. Should i have the glucose after my cardio training?
2. HOw much glucose should i have after weights training?
3. Is the peanut butter before bed good?
4. what is the minimal cottage cheese needed before bed.
5. Brisk walk over running? ---lost on this one! Currently Im runnning and drawing deep breaths and am running quiet intensely. Im also doing it in the baking heat ~ 33 degrees (not that i want to) ....advice please.

Thanks.

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

Another ques:
What do people think about swimming? Would a breast stroke be equivalent to brisk walking?
Been running for 2 days and my quads are killing me!

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

IMO:

1. No
2. None
3. It's ok, in moderation, as long as it is ANPB
4. That's an individual thing, but enough to give about 50-60g of protein in the entire meal (i.e. if you're having 30g of protein from whey, you will probably want 20-30 from cottage cheese)
5. Brisk walking over running definitely. And yes, swimming over both of them. When it comes to cardio, do the lowest possible impact on your joints - and swimming has pretty much no impact so is an excellent choice.

On a side note, don't be too restrictive on your diet at this stage. SO many guys who need 10-14 weeks of dieting start off with a diet that they just can't stick to, and fall off the wagon at about the 4 week mark. Pick something that you will definitely be able to handle running long-term. Ideally something that can be a base diet pretty much indefinitely.

BTW, where are you that it's 33 degrees?!

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

Hi thanks for the tips

1. Surely, having some glucose post weight training will help replenish the lost glycogen, thus the whey protein will be absorbed into the muscle better? Post workout I usually have high GI carbs aswell.

2. Why is brisk walking better besides joint protection.

3. Im in Hong Kong

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

1. Apologies - I mis-read that as "cardio session". Your 50/50 ratio should be alright at your size. You could consider going a little higher on the protein even. For cutting I would consider using lower GI carbs, even post-workout, particularly if you are an endomorph.

2. Joint protection is the main reason. Lower intensity cardio will burn more calories from fats - although to be honest there is little real-world difference - it's keeping your joints safe that's the main thing.

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

Regarding swimming dude, due to water lowering body temp, metabolic rate reduces as well resulting in fewer calories burned. Swimming is best for developing fitness rather than purely for fat burning.

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

what if the water is quite hot...Im in Hong Kong and the water temp is not really cold.

That eliminates the water temp problem and makes swimming good for burning fat..right?

Re: Diet advice and general Q's

I have read that about swimming , but i gotta say that in the real world for a normal guy its gonna make next to no difference!

IMO the fact that you do cardio is more important than , when , what , how , who. If u get me !
