Fructose

Just wondering if anyone had tried fructose from MyProtein and if it lives up to it's low GI claim?

Well according to a GI database I checked, it has a GI of 19 based on the mean of six different samples. That is a low GI figure!

Fructose however is an empty carbohydrate, being just sugar it contains nothing else of nutritional value, no vitamins, minerals, flavanoids, phytos etc just refined carbohydrate. This may be desirable but I still would go for the activated barley over this any day.

agreed total waste of time and money seeing as their are better options out there...Fructose replaces Liver Glycogen before Muscle Glycogen another reason i would not use it...

I'm always wearing of low GI carb supps. Just looking for something to put in my shake at work to chug down quickly. i usually just stick oats in and chew the lumpy bits. Any smoother alternatives we know of or that anyone uses?

Try ready brek..... we recommend this on the site as its simply vit-enriched fine oats... no lumps... just give it a good shake when mixing.. works out at arouns £2/kilo from coop/ asda

Could be wrong, but I am sure I investigated this as a shake additive years ago but they add either salt or sugar to it, can't remember which?

Soak oats in milk or water overnight in the fridge. In the morning they are soft and blend very smoothly.

only advantage of frutose ,albiet a small one, is it is 50% sweeter that normal sugar...

so, you can use less

but its still just sugar...

Hmm.. not starting a barney with ya mate, but..

Ready Brek ingredients: rolled oats, oat flour, wheat flour, calcium carbonate, malt extract, niacin, iron, pantothenic acid (B5), vitamin B6, riboflavin (B2), thiamin (B1), folic acid, vitamin B12

I'm guessing they add the vits back in cos they're lost in the processing that's used to make fine oats from native oats?

i read it some where, One teaspoon of fresh honey mixed with a juice of lime in a glass of lukewarm water will treat obesity. don't understand how??:(

honey is basically frutose syrup anyway,....

i dare say if all you had was a teaspoon of honey and some lime everyday for a year then yeah,...it probly true ...ha ha ha...

Fructose IS very low GI (19) - thats a fact. Take a look below:

Having said that our Ultra Fine Scottish Oats are a much better all rounder for low GI carbs. Fructose is mainly used in "energy drinks" or "sports drinks".

Palatinose (32 GI) is a totally different story. Have a read of its properties on our site it really is an excellent carb - infact potentially the "perfect carb". You can read more here and here as well.
