how do you know your fat burning zone???

i was reading an artical on bodybuilding.com called slow cardio good advice or bad tech...

this was written by a pro bb called bob chicerillo..

he says that cardio should be slow he walks on a treadmill at 3mph and bike at 65rpm... you can email these pro's so i did asking him what heart rate he sticks to and his reply was he does not know??? but any where under 100bpm is good other wise your body will use carbs for fuel not fat...

so how do you know your fat burning zone??? i've tried 50-55% hr and 60-65%

at 50-55% i'm hot and skin is clamy but i'm not sweating loads...
at 60-65% i'm hot but sweat loads...

do you think 50-55% is ok or should i up it???

Re: how do you know your fat burning zone???

i am 24

so my max is 196 220-age

so... 126bpm is 65% of my max heart rate,,

to be honest i find that does fuk all.. i normally try and do my cardio at roughly 145bpm as i get good results from that..

imo cardio should be used to keep a healthy heart aswell as burning fat..

100bpm is fuk all imo

i'd say max heart rate - 25/30% is about right (for me anyway)

u cannot say do 65RPM on a bike its totally different from bike to bike and fitness levels play a huge part also, plus the level u have the machine on..

shoot for 140bpm and then move it either way from there

Re: how do you know your fat burning zone???

sweating isnt nessaceraly (sp) an indication of how close to this ideal fat burning level you are.,...

some people who use ephs are sweating like a pig just sitting still,,,

Jamie sweats all the time! he carries a spare tee!

dont think cos your not towing your bag out that your not fat burning,....

i made this mistake when prepping (and i,m sure Baz'll agree) i hit the crosstrainer like a fool every mornin and ended up (becasue of the diet too) virtually catabolic,,,,

and lost more lean tissue than i would have liked...

and all because i thought i wasnt in the fatburnin zone.....

everones different mate,..all i can say is dont think you need to go crazy,...i find walkin at a fast pace is plenty....or the recumbant cycle ...(that way you can read a mag too)...Ask Baz he'll send you a copy of "Practical Motorhome"...

lol...

Re: how do you know your fat burning zone???

I'm with baz here, I'm 25 and get better results from 150BPM, I have tried as low as 135BPM and I thought I would burn more calories having a w@nk.

I do HIIT as well just to mix things up too.

Re: how do you know your fat burning zone???

for me! ,....its perfect...(well closer 65% )

but you described exactly what i do!...

i also believe that you gotta leave room to "up aunty" ,....

so if you start out at stupid rpm's and then plateau and need a lil more ...wat you gonna do?? hit 200 bpms ??? lol...

if you start low then you can keep shocking the body into dropping lil bits of fat here and there,....

thats this game summed up really.,,a body dosent WANT to be 17 stone and 10% body fat,..its not efficient....so were constantly trying to fool it,...

ok, this is all just my opinion,...

so yeah lol imo what you said is ok,....
