Confidence

Alreet lads. Recently i've been to see a dietician and he gave me the diet he thinks will help me lose weight/gain muscle lean muscle, i've bought in some suppliments i.e whey protein, L glutamine, flax oil. So i'm all set to go except the confidence to go to the gym, im pretty self concious about my body at the minute (340ilbs) so my confidence of going to the gym and looking a berk is doing my head in now.

There is a 'proper' gym near me, which is basically a bodybuilding gym, set at the top of an old factory, all free-weights, no fancy stuff just the nitty gritty, so its full of guys like you lot lol 19 stone guys lifting stupid amounts looking great, or smaller guys looking to gain weight/muscle so i dont think i'll fit in there?

Then there is the 'health club' option, where theres a gym and the rest of it, but its full of the usual machines, saunas, pools, etc etc so that place has lots of 'beautifuk' people. I must sound like a right tw@t here, im a confident person but the self image at the minute is stopping me from actually getting down to the gym! Any suggestions? Which gym would be best? Any ways of just getting over myself and getting down there, im doing my own head in lol cheers guys.

We all had to start somewhere dude.

Almost nobody in bodybuilding is totally happy with their physique really anyway and is always looking to improve - so you're only in the same boat as everyone.

IMO go for the hardcore gym as it will be more motivating. Altho it is fun staring at the gym bunnies in the health club

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

get yourself in there!

go with the hardcore place as Big says,

you'll get a no nonsense/honest kind of enviroment there too.

to help your confidence tho mate , have a plan!!

1. make sure your programmes sorted, so you dont go in and wander round.
2. have an alternative exercise ready for that body part in case the bench/machine you need is ocupied.
3. dont pretend you know more than you do, be your self and you'll get help.

if you need to know owt mate just ask on here, gym ettiquette can be a bit of a funny one,

we'll get you there dont worry.

and welcome to UK-Muscle.....

Stu..

PS. dont stand in front of a mirror that someone is using to check their form during an exercise,
i hate that one!...

Mate, Confidence comes through putting yourself through situations that you feel scared of.

Get your ass in the gym and get working, and if you want something so you can sort out your self image try a Paul Mckenna book dude - Change your life in 7 days or Instant confidence.

Get In there

Your never as young as you are today, everyday you put it off is a missed opportunity to be a step closer to the new you.

Get in there, the more you go and get seen the quicker you make new mates, effort and consistency is what regulars down the gym will recognise as the trade marks of this game. The longer you attend the quicker you become one of the family, respect starts with effort, show them how much youve got.

All the best Highlander

bump what everone has said here

quality stuff

hey big blue

good on you for making your first step mate, well first two actually, one for seeing your dietican and two coming on here( which is a quality place to learn and grow i might add), being honest with yourself and asking for some advice,

so good going mate

you sound like you have been thinking about it loads and already put the wheels in motion, so keep on goin big man, and get your self to the gym

i would go for the hardcore place like everyone else has said mate, the reason it ll be a no nonsense place where peeps go their to work and train. whereas the health club will ave some peeps that just go for a bit crack and hog the machines on benches for ages, while they have a bit crack on

first time you go is gonna be the hardest mate because you wont know anyone, and it ll be completely new you..... but does get easier in time, and like raikey said have a plan of action of what you are going to do, so you dont feel like a t**t stood there not knowing what to do next

i reckon you should take a mate with you as well, then you ll have someone with you to help out with your weights or just purely been there as a presnece, make you feel a lil better and somone to talk too

but if you wanna do it on your own mate, good on ya....

you said you re a confident person, so when you go dont be shy, be pleasant and talk to peeps, a few might not give you a response because there training but best part i imagine will be friendly witrh you and you ll should meet a few new mates down there, so next time you go , you wont feel out of place next time you go

well mate good luck and let as know how you get on bro, and any questions, no matter how stupid or trivial just ask mate you ll get a good response

Hey Blue

I train in a hardcore BBing gym now and I trained in the same one when I was FAT.

Check this thread and the link to the other if you would like to see how many peeps have transformed their bodies
http://www.uk-muscle.co.uk/losing-we...aty-fatty.html

Because I have 'been there' I often make a special effort to help out the newbies with weight issues in the gym.

I have seen loads of the other lads who look fierce do the same.

You will be able to have your questioned answered at a hardcore gym.

Just go for it

I've seen ads for that floating about the place - you tried that? I dunno - im always cynical about these kinda 'self help' things. Even though i am in such better shape now than i was a year and a half ago when i started out lifting and exercising for earnest, i still seem to lack the same confidence now as i did all the way back then :/

I dunno - i just keep thinking to myself that the day will come when i suddenly beam self-confidence, when i reach some certain level of fitness, but something tells me that's not the case.

LOL, that's because you are English.

Hey the better shape didn't help, what harm can reading a book have? How much is your confidence worth, most books are less than a tenner.

Hey Ash is selling an Anthony Robbins book in Classified
