Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

I mean tired like - when you do 4 sets of bench press on chest it gets tired. Like that

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

keep the legs slightly bent and take the weight and lean forward, but as you do, I imagine I have a ruler or stick along my back and if my back bends it will snap it, this keeps me focused enough to be aware to keep the back straight and looking upward or straight ahead.

Feel the tension on the hammy's and then hold briefly and return, works for me anyway.

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

You can use zinc oxide tape to ensure you keep a straight back. Cut 3 strips, about 15cm long and put them vertically on your lower back. When your back bends in the incorrect place you'll feel the tape tugging. You then know to correct your posture.

I use this daily due to a long standing lower back problem to great effect.

SLDL are one of the best mass builders for the hams... but also probably the most incorrectly done exercise.

Slight bend in legs, and push glutes and hips BACKWARDS, DON'T go downwards. If you are doing them correctly, the bar (or dumbells) won't go much lower than mid-thigh... certainly not below knee level, even if you're a monkey.

You should feel no pressure whatsoever on your lower back doing it this way.
Thanks alot mate, ive bin doin em wrong for time and never really got why it always felt bad despite doin it like them carppy videos. Helped alot there mate.

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

I use SLDL'S as my primary ham exercise.
IMO, one of the best ham exercises there is.
As long as you do not round your back and keep your knees slightly bent, IMO, chance of injury is at a minimum risk.

One of the functions of the hamstrings is to extend the hips.

In the SLDL you extend the hips, especially if you are conducting the exercise as advocated in this thread.

How can you not see that this exercise hits the hamstrings?

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

I do this excersise use a barbell and I feel it in my hams and get a slight ache in my lower back ...though I admit my form on an type of deadlift is not great which is obviously the problem I have

Training at home on my it`s not easy to see where i`m going wrong so I will try to get a vid up for some help.( sorry for the highjack )

In answer to the question I would keep them in and voted so..

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

I'd definately keep them in......but drop your weight down until you feel you have correct form i.e. feel the hams working, then start to up the weight......in time you will get it

Re: Straight Leg Deadlifts

When i do deads my lower back hurts which is ovbiously my form but i try and keep my back really straight and lift with my legs not beding the back to much. Do you think the issue could be this not pushing my ass back when lower, I actually felt a twinge today when i was lifting up. Possibly bending my back to much?
