Knee injury/ support advice

I have managed to bash me left knee on something every week for about 3 months now - last night was a classic example, I was out kyte-jumping and managed to foul up a landing so that my left knee took most of the impact... Needless to say it's sore now.

I have been looking on the net at various knee supports/pads/braces - I wan't something to:

a: Take some strain off the knee joint itself.
b: Use while weight training and kyting.

There are 4 main types I have found:

neoprene slipons (open or closed platella)
neoprene slipons with velcro straps (open or closed platella)
neoprene slipons with metal braces (open or closed platella)
frame braces

Does anyone know which type i should use to allieviate an impact related swelling injury to the knee cartilage?

Re: Knee injury/ support advice

I was told by my physio not to use them slip on things but if i chose to ignore him he suggested the open patella version would be the better option.
