whats wrong with my knee?

after cutting my hand badly when working on my car, i thoguht know i can grip again and its better i would get back into training with my new routine, get the cardio up and improve my strength. but yesturday, was on way home and my knee had been twinging a bit, i could just bend my knee. know it ****in wrecks. if i put it out striaght, or bend it. it looks a bit swollen, and it feels likes it bleedin, on the outside like a cut, but it isnt so i dont know where im gettin that from. the pain is on the left leg, looking down ur body to the knee, its on the left side. the click i get from the knee when locking it seems more profound, tho i got a click on both knees so dont think thats anything to go by. dpes anyone know what it could be?

like i say pain when put it straight and initally start to bend. manly on left of knee, but not side, left of knee cap area. also when i twist the knee, ie get out of a chair and twist round to walk off

hope it goes soon, if it dosnt think ill just try and do alot of bag work, runnings out can just walk ok, and kills goin up hills or stairs, and do more core work and pull ups etc, as my pull ups a crap anyway haha.

Re: whats wrong with my knee?

Was there a single event that triggered the pain? Sounds like you may have a bit of cartilage in floating in your knee to me. There is also the possibility of a ligament strain. Does your knee feel unstable?

Try icing the knee to bring the swelling down. Rest is the key word here. Also, do you take fish oils/flax or glucosamine sulphate ?

And there we have it! I'd put my money on this being the cause.
Lots of running, rapid changes of direction, sudden stopping & kneeling down hard. Could be a slight meniscal tear, or maybe a strained colateral ligament from over rotating the knee when changing direction.

My advice, get to a physio assap & get it looked at quick. Even if it's a minor injury, it's worth it.

Re: whats wrong with my knee?

you reckon ninepack, to be fair it wasnt hurtin till sunday night, and as it was a aprty event there was a lot of running, especially on some of the games when i had to sprint the whole place paste veryone, which was fun lol.

whats a meniscal tear, or a colateral ligament, any link to wear i can read about it or out.

Re: whats wrong with my knee?

I'd agree with Nine on this - a tear in the meniscus (your knee cartilage) may result in a bit of tissue floating around in your knee, which is what I suspected. Might just be a ligament strain - in which case it should settle down with rest and ice.

A physio may cost anywhere between £25-£35 per session. It's always wise to get it checked out - a GP won't do sh1t IMO. They'll just tell you to rest and take pain killers or anti-inflammatories.

Re: whats wrong with my knee?

Invisible is right, your GP is not going to be much use. The meniscus is the 'C' shaped cartilage in the knees. It may be a loose body of cartilage floating about, or just a slight tear to it.

the colaterals are on the sides of the knees & give stabilty to the joint. The most likely problem is the meniscus but see what the physio says. I use either Dave Roberts physio on Alkrington near middleton, (see Neil Purcell there, he's a brilliant physio) or I make the trek to see Stuart Cosgrove in Atherton. Either way, money well spent.
