Specific Knee Pain

All,

I know there are many knee issues logged on the board but nothing specifc that defines the pain I am now having in both knees.

Up until 2 months ago I was squating heavy weight with no pain in my knees. 4 - 5 Weeks ago I started to get severe pain above both knee caps. I cant think of anything I have done differently except - On occassions when I wrapped my knees before squatting, my legs fell away from me slightly when I stood up. (Did I wrap my knees too tight and cause damage some how?)

The pain is now that severe that I cant do any squats - leg extensions / lunges due to the pain.

I hope someone can advise?

Thanks

Ian

Re: Specific Knee Pain

Sounds to me like the wraps have caused the patellar tendon to track outside of the patellarfemoral groove. This will result in inflammation in the short term & a strain in the long term if left unchecked.

Do a heat/ice alternation for half an hour every day (5 mins ice, 5 mins heat) & take some anti inflams like ibuprofen (if you are ok to take them). Burn the wraps too, they are not worth the trouble IMO. You will see some improvement in a few days but it sounds like you have been aggravating the problem for a while so don't expect overnight results.

Re: Specific Knee Pain

Go and see a GOOD sport physio, loads a little exercises/stretches that you can do but find out EXACTLY what it is first

Re: Specific Knee Pain

Nine Pack,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I was thinking I had done something in relation to the wraps as my lags gave way a couple of times once I wrapped them then stood up.

I hope to god it is what you think and I can get this sorted..

Mrmasiv,, Thankyou - I know a good sports physio - Ex Body Builder who lives close by - I will give him a call.

All the best Ian

Re: Specific Knee Pain

Good advice, any injury that causes restricted mobility needs LOOKING at and tested.
