Dead Leg

I had a real hard bang on my right quad playing rugby a week last Saturday and whilst the problems of not being able to walk properly on it has gone I still have problems.

There is no constant pain in the area, but depending on how I move / use my leg there is a sickening dull ache in the area that is causing me some problems.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? It is keeping me awake in the night and stopping me from training properly because for about 30 seconds to a mintute after using the muscle the dull ache / pain comes back.

i too used to play rugby and i sufferd a really bad dead leg,at first i thought that id broke it!when my coach ran on he put a wet cold sponge on the spot were id been hit and their was like blue lighting streeks shooting all over my upper quad!i couldnt walk for 2weeks i was in hospital with my leg tied up in the air becoz i had serius internal bleeding.best go get it checked out mate coz you can end up with a blood-clot from this type off injury.back in the old rugby day cloth around the leg pushing the blood up the they would draw it out with a srynge, becoz they thought it got rid off the bad blood lol.total maddness eh.

I think I will go and have it checked to be sure. There is definately something wrong there.

Would you go to your GP or the hospital for something like this? It happened well over a week ago so not really sure who to see now.

Go to your GP! Accident & Emergency is for serious injuries requiring immediate attention. Too many people abuse A&E, thats why there is a 4 hour delay to be seen in most of them.

Sounds like inflammation is still upsetting perhaps your femoral nerve, try anti inflammatories and rest for another couple of weeks. Localised heat application could probably help and some light massage to stimulate blood flow.

Most GP's do listen, they just don't have much time for sportsmen unfortunately!

Thanks for the reply

The aching is slowly going away now, so not so concerned anymore, but I will pay a visit to be on the safe side.

I have had dead legs in the past, but they normally go within a day or two but this was pretty bad being nearly 3 weeks and its still there! lol

Rugby physio checked it out for me. Said nothing to worry about, just deep bruising.

The club has just gotten an ice bath so hopefully in the future I can use it to help with injuries like this
