Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

Just been the doctors with a shoulder injury. From what ive read etc i am pretty sure it is a rotator cuff injury and so i have been rotator cuff rehab exersizes for the past 2/3 weeks. I pain still hasent fully healed yet and i have trouble doing pressing movements.
Thought i would take a trip to the doctors to see what he had to say about it and was hoping he would refer me to a pyhsio or sports therapist. Instead he gave me these 'Diclofenac sodium e/c tablets'. Told me to take them 3 times a day and not on an empty stomach.

Anybody know anything about these?

Re: Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

I have used Diclofenac Retard (yes, honestly that's the name), a slow release version of what you've been prescribed. It is a very effective painkiller, but all that it will do is mask the pain, which isn't necessarily the best idea if you've got RC problems. If you do decide to take them, definitely take them on a full stomach otherwise they will tear your guts out.

Re: Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

Cheers for the replys peeps,

So in reality its not going to cure the problem, there just painkillers. Im not ****d about the pain, the pain i can handle, im just ****d about gettin it fixed so i can start propper lifting again. I think ill just continue doing RC rehab exersizes.

Re: Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

he is sposed to refer you to physio...as the name states...GP...that means they are not specialists, just general practitioners...so they have very very limited knowledge on sports injuries, unless they specialised before!!!

because of time and money crap, they would rather pass you off with some anti-inflammatories,tabs or cream!!!
when you go back to the docs...you have to bullsh*t your way through...really exaggerate the pain all the while your there, and say you cant lift things up for everyday life, its hurting whilst trying to lye on that side etc etc...you get the picture...diclofenac are not pain killers, they are anti-imflamms!!!!!

get yourself another appointment, and get ready for the exaggeration, cos thats the only way you will get anything out of the people..not saying this is the way to do things, but when you tell doctors about self inflicted injuries at the gym, they dont seem to care!!!!

a physio is trained and a specialist in that field, they will pinpoint your injury, and explain to you what it is!!!!!
funny thing is...as soon as we get a shoulder injury...we all say oh its the rotator cuff...but there are many more parts and bicep, tricep, chest and various other muscle and tendon insertions that attach to the shoulder...so dont guess it,get down to the docs, and get the physio's professional opinion...

i've been 3 times for my shoulder and each time they have helped me rehabilitate it...and have just finished with physio for my 3rd shoulder injury a coupla weeks ago...all different type of pain/injuries to the same area, but pretty much similar symptons!!!
but each time i've had great advices, help and rehab exercises and most important, time to rest...otherwise you'll be back to square one or none!!!!

keep training on a damaged bodypart,if its tendon(sinewy related)...it'll progressively get worse til your fcuked basically...and you need your shoulder not just for training but you want it for after retirement too(same with any other bodypart)!!!

good luck mate...get well soon!!!

Alright ant, cheers for your detailed reply.
He really ****ed me off down at the docs today, he basically asked me what my symtoms were, then had a little play around my arm and then prescribed me that medication.
Ive got myself another appointment booked now so hopefully he should refer me next time round.
It is slowly getting better from doing the rotator cuff exersizes which i have found off the net but i would still like to seek a professional opinion.
Would you recommend that i dont train full stop? or go easy and avoid training anything that puts strain on the injured part??

Cheers all,
Ste

Cheers all,
Ste

yep...the old doctors, well a majority of them suffer from god complex, even though they have no specialist training...they think that the general public/average joe has no knowledge and treat em like nothings...but hate me when i go in and start telling em i need physio etc etc,cos i know some basics and have some scientific knowledge!!!
just have to go in with a bad grimace on your face complaining about pain in most movements, cant even reach up top shelf without pain, what they wanna hear is if it impedes your every day activity and work i guess..if you exaggerate the whhole thing and make out its very painful and is stopping you doing a lot of things...and say i really think i need some physio help all with the whincing and grimacing...he's got to do it,if not, then the doc is an ass!!!!
if your able to move around and do other exercises that do not directly stress it or make it pain...then carry on with those exercises but with the exercises that direct cause pain, damage or weakness...i'd say stay away from em til you know whats what from a physio...they will tell you what to do and not!!!
i'd say get the shoulder iced ASAP,swelling, especially if its the tendons under the acromium could cause rubbing along with any damage or microtears you have...also try correcting your posture if its bad in the area!!!!
also try gentle massage to the area, because tendons and sinewy tissue have little blood supply and oxygen passing through, unlike muscle tissue etc...helps with what blood flow you can get there, for nutrients, oxygen etc!!!

i wish you all the best with your shoulder injury mate...think it is one of the most common problems for training with heavy weights...but please allow yourself to be near 100% and gradually re-introduce yourself to heavier weights when ready...cos common mistake is thinking,oh its better slam, heavy weight, way too soon...fcuked!!!
avoiding this will ensure you get back to normal and surpass your past gains and have a new strengthened shoulder complex!!!
i've been going light for ages and gradually re-introducing my weights for about 2 months now, still doing it...some days better than others, but working with physio instructions and exercises...its doing the trick nicely...might even take another week off for healing, and do some more cardio!!!!

funny thing, something has come good of it,cos i was training heavy all the time...and now going from total rest on that bodypart to light training and getting pumped up like a friggin balloon,nice...!!!
also correcting some bad form, and has been giving me very solid dense muscle tissue!!!!

fcuk me,another novel ffs...

i wish you all the best for your recovery, hope its not too bad and you get back to what you love doing!!!

Re: Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

Cheers for ur novel ant!! lol
Im sure you can fully understand whats its like when something impedes ur training and when its something that we love. Like i said, ive got myself another appiontment at the docs, just going to really milk it and make it sound worse than it is.
I think i am going to continue training as i have already had 3weeks off due to this injury and starting to go crazy, but just going to be very careful and aviod any movements that put stress on the injured area until i seek adivce from a pyhsio. Cheers for ur comments ant, really helps.

Re: Diclofenac Sodium E/C?

I had shoulder surgery a year ago, was prescribed these and stillneed to take them every now and again if it flares up.

Id go for an MRI as mine was diagnosed rotator cuff but when they did MRI and X ray they saw calcification of the bone in the joint.

Theres a thread in the injury forum about it fromFeb last year.

See my above post, they are indeed painkillers as well as NSAIDs, I have been prescribed them on two occasions for renal calculi.
