![]() | shoulder pain when db pressing!?? been doing alot of db shoulder press for the last 4/5 months and in the last month or so i've been getting shoulder pain (in both shoulders) at the top of the movement only when going heavy (6-8 reps) so much so i could only do 2 reps on my last set due the pain. strange really as no other shoulder excercises hurt ie side raises or upright row, and it only hurts right at the top of the press movement. the only other excercise that hurts my shoulders is barbell bench press (which i avoid). any ideas what it could be? i may change to barbell shoulder press for a change to see if this makes a difference. arnold |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: shoulder pain when db pressing!?? If it's impingement it's unlikely to be a standard subacromial one. MAybe an anterior coracoid impingement. Rest will ease the symptoms as you're not aggravating it, but if the problem is caused by a biomechanical issue (your shape or the way your muscles act) or a technical issue (the way you lift ), it'll only come back. Advice would be rest untill you can press with no weights as sport dr said. Then return slowly. If the problem returns you should go and get assessed. They'll be able to diagnose and tell you how to rehab successfully. good luck |

![]() | Re: shoulder pain when db pressing!?? cheers for the responses guys its funny you should say its an impingement as a guy at the gym said that too. so do you think i should avoid just db/barbell shoulder press for awhile? is it ok to still train shoulders with excercises which dont push, only pull excercises ie side raises and upright rows? as these dont give me any pain anyway. also is it ok to still do chest press with db's (as this doesnt hurt my shoulders) or should i back off this aswell? |

Arnold,it doesn't sound too serious at the moment, however, this could change very quickly if you attempt to train through it. Take a week off training and then slowly introduce the exercises that do not aggravate it,i would be inclined to stay away from any shoulder/press movements until completely pain free In the mean time,ice/heat rotation along with,if possible,a sports massage of the affected area (connective tissue supps/anti inflammatories(acute stage) will also help) ![]()
