Yeah call me Cara lol

Fitness is better than it had been but miles off where I want to be!! :(

Gym sessions are always rushed - generally 20 minutes on cross trainer and 10-15 minutes on rowing machine, I try to do a bit at home when I can fit it in. I do a bit of pilates too.
Off uni for 3 weeks so want to try to put the time to good use! I'll maybe stick a post up later to get some inspiration!

Hey Spartan301,

I don't know! But, I think it might've happened when I was about 14.. was swimming in the sea with flippers on and I must have moved my leg awkwardly and something kinda popped out of place and I couldn't walk back up the beach... was messing around with my knee for ages to get in back in place! Next time it happened was about a year later in the USA... again, in water!

Never really had problems with it unless it dislocated up until last year when I had pain everytime I exercised! Gutted!

Have resigned myself to the fact I'm likely to be forever broken!

LOL

Hi Cara!

Try to incorporate some resistance into your regime.. you'll start to see results much sooner!

Use the site to your advantage, there's some great guys on here... check out pscarbs posts if you're short of things to do!

Take it easy...

Re: Knee Cartilidge

Try walking around in the shallow end of a swimming pool. That worked great for me as well as using the balancing board.

Cant be resigned to the fact your broken!! Cant imagine surfing will be too comfortable unless you get it sorted!!

Hey Spartan,

Surfing's pretty impossible at the mo, let alone uncomfortable... haven't been in the water much at all for fear of being stuck out back and unable to swim!!!! Maybe I will try the walking around in the swimming pool thing... sounds fun!!!!!

Re: Knee Cartilidge

Its not too bad. Can be a bit boring though!! Just make sure you wear a scowl when your walking around so the kids in the pool dont splash you!

Re: Knee Cartilidge

If you've had cartilage removed
a) it'll never grow back so you've lost the shock absorbing effects of the cartilage that's been stripped out; i.e crashing down on your knee is going to hurt & lead to possibly more damage but controlled resistance training should be OK weights/bike/rowing (but still painful)
b) if you've had meniscal cartilage removed you've lost some of the structure in your joint that gives stability and makes the bone ends move over each other in the right direction; i.e. avoid exercises that involve rotation of the lower leg, pushing off side-ways etc.
Some positive evidence that non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprfen speeds recovery. Glucosamine +/- fish oils are good but take about 6 weeks to kick in. Cann't beat decent ultrasound
Remember good ole fashioned rest-ice-compression-elevation. If you can, after training flop on the couch with your leg up and an ice pack/bag-of-frozen peas wrapped in a damp tea towel (allows for cooling but avoids freezer burn) for 15-20mins.
