shoulder pain, please help guys not sure what it is

hi im 20 and ive been training 2years, and ive always trained properly never done any behind kneck movments, and never had any problems at all. untill about a month ago i was training chest and i was on the hammer chest press doin my wrking sets which i can normally knock out a nice 8 reps, but my friend help me lift the left side no problem, he then helpd me lift the right which is what we always do save injury, but as i lifted my right side i hada sharp pain in my front delt, i tried pressing i did bout 2 reps and it really didnt feel good at all, so i got my stuff and went home. the next 2 days was hell my arm was killing, and since then it hurts i havent trained chest properly since, i have no idea what it could be, its very frustrating because i can train shoulders no problem and i can go quite heavy, and also back, pull downs are fine, but close grip pull downs with handles hurt alot. ive read a lot ov posts but i still really dnt knw what it is, its been over a month, i dont really knw much a bout rotator cuff and the symptoms, my friend said it could be a ligament. but im really nt sure any help would be great thanks

To be honest I would stop training upper body and go see a sports physio as it is so hard to diagnose over the internet! Post where you are located as someone on here may be able to recommend one to you.

I have had a shoulder injury and it took 6 months of rehab to get it right, dont work through it as it will come back and bite you in the future. Best of luck!

Training properly and not behind neck are strange ways. If you train properly you should be able to train behind the neck. I spent years as a powerlifter getting injuries and had surgery. My doctor told me if I had more mobility and train more behind the neck movements, I would stretch my shoulder girdle back and prevent injuries.

Just a thought. I am now a qualified sports therapist and believe the problem to be due to over built front delt and under built rear delt and rotator cuff muscles.

Look up rotator cuff on the net, do some light behind neck movements, THIS WILL HELP!

Agree with the muscle imbalance reasoning but i disagree with behind the neck movements.

IMO these movements are not needed and only serve to cause injury, definitely do not do them if succeptible to rotator cuff problems.

Safer and more effective movements to readdress a shoulder imbalance include deadlifts, rows and specific posterior delt work such as bent over lateral raises or facepulls.

Be prepared for a long rehab period, it most likely won't be a 'quick fix', I have had a shoulder injury for about nine months seen 3 physio's and had an mri! Still none the wiser as to what the problem really was/ is! don't train your chest for a few months and concentrate on your back. Without sounding patronising, a lot of young guys spend way too little time training back which can lead to these imbalance / impingement type injuries. Good luck with it pal.
