Re: when i do standing military press it feels like my back is about to give in

I had a similar problem once, when i overhead lift it used to look like i would need a spinal board after the set. its because i used a belt so much it weakened the core suport muscles that you need if you want to get a respectable overhead press.

I would agree with whats been said your probably compounding this by doing a push press instead of a military press and leaning back.

the best way to make sure your back is straight is to keep your chin down and your heals togeather (thus the name military press because its the same as when your on the parade ground.)

oh and as a side note, do your self a favour and use a olympic bar, the small bars are crap as the colars do not rotate and it makes stuff like cleans very hard. Also unless your a midget your find your hand postioning is not good when racking anything bar a olympic bar as its harder to balance.

then its a sort of bastardised split press, not a military press.

you have your heals togeather to do militarys or i think a maximum distance of 12" was permited between the heels later on.

Re: when i do standing military press it feels like my back is about to give in

i really dont see the attraction with wearing a belt. i never wear one even when heavy dealifting, squatting or benching and god knows why people use them for barbell curls. "my form is that shatner i need to wear a belt"
ffs throw it in the bin

Re: when i do standing military press it feels like my back is about to give in

that is not insane at all actually.
you clearly have no experience of powerlifting.
there is a guy in my gym who weighs 62kgs and has just deadlifted 205kgs.
is he a liar as well?
i have 2 friends that weigh 85kgs and they have both benched 180kgs+ without a bench suit.
neil zebedee who trains in my gym weighs 56.5kgs and benches 120kgs.
still think its insane?
