Lower bck pain, again!

Was training legs last night for the 1st time in years, ok dont laught you guys, squats with 30kg , front squats with 30kg then hack squats with 30 kg, plus calfs, all 4 x 10 . Thought i would start off light due to not training them in ages, but even tho i did my lower back left of my spine is hurting today, like a stabbing pain when i bend over, is this just because my core is weak and have to strenthen it up 1st? again havnt done any core work in ages(tut tut). just worried im going to really fuc it up again.

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Lower back forms part of your anatomical weight belt, it is possible you have a little muscle damage there.

Core work would definately have supported this area, but Iwonder if your technique was spot on too?

Rest it for a few days and see how you go, I am sure it will go with rest.

For next time:

Core work
Stretch
Technique

Cheers buddy, Technique should be pretty spot on as im a qualifed personal trainer, need to get a mirror in the garage to double check though, i do need to stretch more, just worried that it may spark off my old injury.

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Likr SportDr said leave it for a few days and see how it goes. Had the same thing happen to me a few times. Ibuprofen and rest but dont stay lying down whole time and see how it is.
Turned out to be a trapped nerve once when I had it so if doesn't go away consider seeing a good osteopath.
I know the pain..Bend over wrong and it'll put you on the floor

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

I get bad lower back every time I go over 140 on the squat, so I just go up to 120 now then hit the press for my heavy sets......back is much better for it

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Sounds similar to my back pain. Just above the glute by any chance? I have a weak core which lead me to damage ligaments in my back. I'm slowly recovering a year on. I don't do back squats any more, just stick to front squats and my legs are coming along nicely. Deads are still a little way a way, but I've started doing extremely light S/L deads again.

Sounds to me like you over did it with the squats - even though they were light. I'd stick to front squats for the time being.

You have to strengthen your core otherwise you are going to do that same thing again. See a good physio if you can or research core strengthening.

My physio told me to basically brace myself with every lift, bend, twist and turn. Suck in and tense the lower abs and almost clench your buttocks - this will stabilise your core taking the emphasise away from your lower back - which is more than likely taking the strain. This should prevent the injured or weak area from being put under pressure/strain. Once your core is strengthen this kind of bracing will become natural.

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Mickus, without hijacking BB's thread, is seeing a Physio and Chiro a good idea? Unless they know what each other is doing they might be over working you or even undoing what the other has done!

Good luck with the recovery.

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Ive been seeing a chiro, which has really help as the problem was with 2 vertibra not moving properly which could of been caused years ago, so with a 2 year in the training has helped, got a lot more movement back, just dieing to do some heavy squats, im benching neary 3 times what i cant squat which is the wrong way round lol, never mind sure i'll get back there in the end, just taking it easy and not going in all guns blazing and screwing it up again for another 2 years.

Ive got one of these flexibak things, which you lie on and do 3 different types of movements on then just lye on it for as long as you want, and ive been surprised at how well it has help my back, i use it striaght after training to releave the muscles, well worth a investment.

Re: Lower bck pain, again!

Lewis - you could have a strain or a mild disc injury. I'd suggest going to see a physio before it gets any worse. Simply leaning on one leg while standing can cause problems with the ligament in your back. Imagine what can happen then if you are squatting or deadlifting with one leg longer than the other or with a strain in either side of your back. POP! Ouch - 6-12 months out...

See a physio and get it sorted before it becomes a problem is my advice.
