Training First Thing In The Morning
Hi all,
apologies if this has already been asked before.....
Due to work commitments etc I HAVE to train first thing in the morning.
I am currently trying to bulk up (only weigh 72kg with about 12-15% body
fat) and i'm on a 10 week programme, on the roids and eating everything
that isn't nailed down every 2 hours.
I am worried as work out basically on an empty stomach. Gym opens @
6.30am so I get up @ 6am and have a cup of black coffee and banana.
I tried having a shake at that time but it just sits on my stomach and
affects my workout as makes me feel sick.
Is working out like this really affecting the gains I could be making? If so
would what you recommend. Maybe setting my alarm for 5am and downing
a shake then, before hitting the sack for another hour?
your advice is much appreciated.

how about waking up 45mins/60mins early and jut eating a big bowl of oats?

You'll be able to find out what diet he follows to help him train that early as i know i would struggle.

Re: Training First Thing In The Morning
tbh m8 if it was me i'd do excactly as your doing accept i'd chg the coffee for a pre workout drink packed with aminos and creatine,
thing is the energy you need will come from glycogen stored in your muscles you know when you pick up a weight an think christ that feels light today youll know your full of glycogen, it can take up to to three days to fully load your muscles with glycogen, so necking oats an hour aint gonna do it, most bodybuilders know that when you train your using what you ate yesterday, tiny tom has done a great thread on this its a sticky and explains it much better than i could, but basicly involves training eod and increasing your carbs on non workout days so ye ready for the nx days work out,

Re: Training First Thing In The Morning
If you really can't manage any food in you at all before your morning work out, get BCAA powder from myprotein and take a decent dose of this and make sure you get a decent meal PWO.

Re: Training First Thing In The Morning
You can train yourself to get going and work out in the morning before eating anything - providing your eat properly the night before.
Not long before bed eat some protein and fat, and a little carbs: a wholemeal chicken and mayo sandwich, or a protein shake with peanut butter and a piece of fruit, etc. This will keep you sustained and anabolic through the night and into the next day.
When you get up, eat no carbs at all, and only a protein shake if necessary before you get going or work out. The lack of carbs will force your body to use its fat reserves and help prevent putting on flab even though you're eating a lot to get bigger.
After working out, or an hour or two on rest days, have a good complex breakfast.
And generally, eat ample protein and fat, but limit your carb intake to just sufficient to power your daily life and intense workouts.
There's no point whatsoever in putting on fat when you want lean muscle, and it's your carb intake that governs your fat storage.

Re: Training First Thing In The Morning
as your in a gaining phase if it were me i would.
Night before - 30g carbs from oats, natty peanut butter beef/eggs etc. good amount of protein, few low gi carbs and some good fats
During the night i would have a blended protein shake with 50g oats in and 10 ml olive oil.
Then when i woke i woud head to the gym and start drinking a big shake consisitng of 20g carbs from malto/wms etc - 15g aminos/5g glut. then pwo some whey/iso then head home/work and have a solid meal
