do you really need to work your tri-ceps in isolation?

The reason I ask is because I have changed my routine to chest (bench/ inclined flys) and shoulders (shoulder press/shrugs/etc) on the same session, and after working these body parts I find I am completely "kackered" and can't do some tricep excercises (extentions for example) so do you guys think it is sufficient to not work the triceps in isolation?

Also, if you do close grip bench press (to work the tris more) then would that be hitting all the 3 heads?

Not really mate ive always thought you dont really need to work them too much if your doing big exercises like benching and dips. Not sure about close grip bench hitting all three heads though mate, Dips and I think skull krushers do.

I used to think the same as cap, but since working arms on a separate day my strength has gone up not only on arms but also on chest and back work.

CG bench press with an EZ bar works all 3 heads IMHO

What about bench but holding the bar in the middle (with hands close together)? I've never seen anyone do them except for me.

stu_moon is on a distinguished road
hands close together or touching puts more stress on the wrists. stuff I've read seems to say keep em about 10 inches apart. thoughts from other guys ?

No. IMO, you don't need any isolation work at all.

Just do the compounds (in the case of triceps, bench press) and you will grow fine.

I know many get good results without isolating arms so I'm not saying they're wrong, but I have to punish my arms hard to get them to grow, always have had to, so in my case isolation yes!

CGB is a good tricep exercise, as are dips and pushdowns, but for me the king of them all will always be skullcrushers!

Biker im with you on that, All the big tricep exercises are good but Skullcrushers are the definately the king, going back to CGB, why not try doing them on the smith machine and bring the bar down high on your chest keeping in your eldows to your sides and it feels like a kind on skullcrusher pressing movement and really isolates the tri's rather than put the focus on the chest which can easily happen.

Clos grip bench presses on a decline bench, using the narrowest part of an ez bar. Fantastic exercise, Tris are getting way stronger and bench press is shooting up as well
