Seated Or Standing Shoulder Press?

Just joined a new gym (with power rack). I've previously been doing seated shoulder press on the smiths machine:crazy: . But seeing as the new gym has got a power rack, I was wondering if is should continue with the seated shoulder press (with olympic bar using power rack) or go for standing, with power rack?

I'm presuming standing will introduce more core stability.

What do yiz reckon?

Personally I would do both, not on the same workout, but maybe one week standing 1 sitting or 3 weeks one way then the other. They both have their merrits and their problems

I prefer seated.

No cheating with legs, etc then, and if you have a shoulder press seat you get good support on your lower and upper back.

But, I do do both

sitting for me cant lift as much standing as can sitting ( still working on a weak lower back) if i was to do them standing would prefer to pre exaust first

That's why form is imperative, as is lifting within your own limits.

Putting a lot of weight on a bar, lifting it over your head with explosive power and holding it there before lowering it slowly is one of the most anabolic exercises you can do. Very useful for core strength, power and overall mass.

Deadlifts and squats can injure you too. Heck, curls can if you do them badly enough. It's all about knowing what you're doing and being safe.

... but standing is best
