Re: Morning workout on a empty stomach Good or Bad

I would have thought you would be losing muscle by doing heavy weights 1st thing on an empty stomache? I train after at least 3 good meals when I am at my strongest and have some good fuel for my W.O, not when I am starved and at my weakest.

I would def make sure you are very well hydrated AT LEAST! drink at least 3 glasses of water before you start.. (muscle is 3/4 water so keep them hydrated) along with some L-glutamine.. this will help prevent you burning muscle for energy.. and 'aim' more to your fat stores for energergising your workout. Cardio at this time is more productive than restistence training imo. But thats just my personal opinion.. if it works for you.. go for it ;) but sounds like a bad idea if you want to grow (and not so bad if you want to cut).

If you wish to train in the AM, you need a meal first with at least 50g of protein and 50g of carbs and leave at least an hour for it to digest and replenish stores that would have depleted in the night. The only thing you should ever consider before breakfast is steady rate cardio (half an hour brisk walk for example) as this will burn fat but isnt demanding enough to put you in a catabolic state.
i second this, as this advice is a lot the same as what i read on many different websites.

Out of curiousity, would 20-30 mins on an exercise bike, or swimming be okay for fasted cardio?

As long as your hear rate doesnt go above 130bpm you should be ok. Morning is for steady state cardio. The most id advise is a steady bike ride or a walk really for 30-45 mins

Re: Morning workout on a empty stomach Good or Bad

the reason i asked this is because my partner is expecting and is due at the end of october so i want to train in the morning so i can spend my time with the family after work and i dont want to stop training. what i am thinking is that it is a bad idea to train on a empty stomach full stop from what has been said so i might wake up 2 hours early have a weight gain shake and bannana back to sleep then have a bcaa shake just before training.

Dont disturb sleep mate, its the most important part of growth and recovery! I think it will be a case of going to bed an hour or 2 earlier and getting up an hour earlier.
