Hi mate

I have moved this to the training section as it's more appropriate here.

For getting bigger, IMO, heavy weights are vital. You must keep form totally strict, but you much also progressively add weight each session.

I think the heavier weights are the way to go.
I think it builds a more mature muscle too, the ones that last longer with a layoff.

Pumps have their place especially during injuries but for the most part the heavier weights will be best.

This is semi relevent, what about training heavy first (HIT or just heavy working sets) then a pump set (increased blood flow) then fascial stretching, then another pump set (if necessary- not sure about this last set)

I personally always finish my bi's with a set of cable curls of about 15-20 reps purely to get the blood in there and because i like doing it also - i think for bi's, tri's, calves and traps - the higher rep training and going purely to get as much blood in there as possible is a handy shock weapon, however for larger muscle groups and main exercises for the other smaller groups - heavy weights are the way to go.....

overload = hypertrophy

I feel that a fairly fast (controled) movement is crucial for gaining as well

Do you mean the positive only, or do you mean the negative too?

mainly the posotive.......

..........but i feel too many people perform the negative far too slowly

Moving a heavy weight slowly is one thing.....it takes a strong man to move it quickly...controled of course

70% of your max works 90% of all the slow and fast twitch muscles.
No brainer really, use enough weight to trigger growth.

I know some guys work the muscles fast but I think this can be a problem leaning twards injury.
