Hyperplasia- the splitting or increase of existing muscle fibres. Hypertrophy results from an increase in the intensity of work done (increase of work in a unit time) only when intensity is increased (overload) does hypertrophy follow A muscle will not grow intil it is overloaded! If you could sustain contraction against 100lbs for 6 seconds and Never attempt to increase the resistance employed the body/muscle has no reason to enlarge. The miler and the sprinter The miler does more work than the sprinter but, in comparing intensities the 10 second man runs at 30 feet per second and the four minute miler only runs at 22 feet per second. The sprinter has the larger muscles. Once the speed of a repertition exceeds a certain rate, momentum takes a big part in the repertition. Training for strenght rather than endurance any amount of training over the precise amount required to accomplish the desired effect is by definition Overtraining. |
