what body parts together ?

Hi guys, gotta question for yas,

I will be starting weight training on monday after about 5 or 6 months off, well not off, ive been just doing cardio only because of injuries,

I used to love doing...chest with tris....back with bis....shoulders n traps,

Now then, because i will be going light until i bulk up and start getting my strength back, i was wondering if i should keep chest n tris apart and keep back n bis apart, theory is....if i do chest n bis on monday, than back n tris on wednesday, its like my bis and tris are getting 2 workouts a week, rather than doing chest n tris on a monday then back n bis on a wednesday which would only give my bis n tris 1 workout a week, if you know what i mean,

my proposed weekly workout muscle groups....

workout 1

monday....chest n bis
tuesday.....legs
wed..........back n tris
thur..........cardio
friday........shoulders n traps

then after 4-6 weeks change it to my fave muscle groups together

workout 2

monday...chest n tris
tue.........legs
wed.......back n bis
thur.......cardio
fri.........shoulders n traps

what do you think guys ?

Re: what body parts together ?

Your 4 - 6 week training pattern is my favourite to, but if your bulking, why are you doing cardio?

yeah dude, the cardio, i think its because for the last few months, all i have been doing is cardio, so i was gonna keep a cardio day in, i think just sub-contiously i didnt want to lose all the fitness over the last few months of cardio, whats your fave muscle pattern dude, the first one or second one

IMO I would keep a day of cardio to keep your fitness up just ensure you are having enough kcals.

I agree as above 4-6 workout is better. If you want to bulk why hit your bi's and tris twice a week?

Re: what body parts together ?

can you guys confirm what you think the 4-6 workout is please, the first workout or the second workout, just the first workout is chest n bis on monday and back and tris on wednesday, this would hit your bis n tris twice a week, thanks

in my first post dude, i said i would be going light, until i get my strength back and bulk up, so i thought if i started with workout 1 , and hit my bis and tris on monday and wednesday , i would get used to lifting quicker, muscle memory and all that, monday chest n bis (also hitting tris as secondry muscle when doing chest).....wednesday back n tris (also hitting bis as secondary muscle with back), sorry, im crap at explaining stuff

Re: what body parts together ?

yeah, im gonna do workout 1 for 6 weeks, get used to lifting again, then move to workout 2 and start going heavy, dunno about the thursday as cardio, probably end up missing it out eventualy (no motivation for it), or i might split my tuesday legs over 2 days, do legs tuesday and thursday, i'll ask the guys in the gym what they think,

To gain muscle and to be more efficient

As for the original posters split

push/pull/legs is fine and is the second idea

You may also look at other forms of training such as FBR (full body stuff), upper/lower/off/upper/lower/off and repeat or even some volume training with chest and back, shoulders and arms and legs.

Loads of methods of splits, loads of ideas in them

Re: what body parts together ?

Ive never been a fan of doing chest and tri's together. I always feel that my tri's do not get a 100% workout after doing chest.

However it all depends on you and what you think works best for you

I've normally always trained triceps with chest but I also feel sometimes, especially on monday the triceps didnt get a good work out, I'm going to try hitting the triceps first & doing chest later in the workout & see how it goes.

As for the routine, I'm doing the same as your second one at the moment

I dont think that will work. Doing triceps first then trying to bench press! You will probably only be able to bench half the normal weight
