| Gym Addict | 2 questions help please would appreciate the help all... 1) I see a lot of big guys bench pressing with a grip that doesnt have the thumb around the bar. The bar kind of rests on the the palm of their hand near the wrist. I asked one of the guys and he said it was to reduce pressure on the wrist. Anyone seen this, is it a superior grip? 2) A number of people have told me to do cardio on my non lifting days. I have not weight trained in a while but have good fitness. I want to build some mass and strength but wouldn't cardio impede your recovery? Why woudl people do cardio in a mass program? Is it to keep fat under control and does that even work? would I be better off going flat out lifting hard, eating and resting and then tackle fat later? thanks in advance, guinness |

But at the end of the day its whats best for you.

| Mutant | Re: 2 questions help please 1- its called suicide grip in the past yr only i saw 2 peps dropping the bar on themselves while using that grip (and i rarely spend more than 6hr a week in gym), also, it does not decrease pressure on the wrist, keeping the bar in "safe" position with this grip will increase that pressure, along with strain on forearm muscles/tendons2- depends how active is your day out of the gym, imo, but [quote]would I be better off going flat out lifting hard, eating and resting and then tackle fat later? have my definitive no (: ...unless we change it to "going flat out lifting hard, eating and resting and not getting fat(ter) in the process" |

| Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger | Re: 2 questions help please I sometimes use the thumbless grip as, for some strange reason, on some days I find I can press more weight that way. I'm always careful to have a good spotter though, because YouTube has scared me. LOL. If you still want to keep up your cardio, do it AFTER weights, not before. Save your energy for the lifts and do cardio afterward. Apparently you burn more bodyfat that way. |

![]() | Re: 2 questions help please The idea of not gripping the bar has come from the guys who suffer with joint problems, if you have small wrists, that grip is great. But be warned, you have no control on the bar, so be confident in your lifting before you try it. you can also use the grip on curling, tricep push downs and also pull downs for the back. Cardio..............well if you want size, which most guys want, then don't do it unless you are consuming enough protein to stop your body going into a catabolic state. Good luck. |

| Gym Addict | Re: 2 questions help please thats what I mean. 3 responses; one says do it, one says dont and one says no if you dont need to, which is subjective. I guess the answer lies in training hard and tolerating some fat which is as far as I can tell inevitable with a sustained cal surplus and tackling it after the mass cycle. Will keep doing what I am doing (approx 500 cals a day surplus and hard lifting every other day) until I hit 13 stone which will take approx 6 weeks and sort it out then. |
