Hamstring Raise vs Hamstring Curl

Hi,

I'm trying to make sure i'm going to have full gym functionality in my home gym before swapping to it.

My current routine incorporates a hamstring curl, would Hamstring Raises (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8QR3XP4x3M) be a suitable replacement as i don't have a curl machine. I've tried getting my head around it, but can't decide if it's doing the same job.

Cheers,

Ross

Re: Ghetto GHRs

Im not going to make a reference to a justin timberlak track being on in the backgorund and the use of this exercise

In effect its a hyper without the bench and most of the weight

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...extension.html

come spin off off good mornings

They work the hams and lower back (ES)

The annoying thing is he had a fcuking rack and olympic bar to do SLDLs or GMs at a distant second

TBH I would have to be very hard pressed to fit 'Ghetto GHRs' into a plan especially when you can do SLDLs

Re: Ghetto GHRs

I had the volume off, so never heard the music!

I am doing SLDLs but someone mentioned that you'd need some sort of hamstring curl in the their as SLDLs are only a stretching exercise. Does that make sense?

Like i said, i'd rather do a hamstring curl but don't have a machine. I mistook the name of the exercise i really wanted to put in the topic, but couldn't work out how to edit it after i'd posted the topic.

The exercise i wanted to do and is displayed in the youtube video is a Hamstring Raise not a Ghetto GHR. BTW, what is a GM?

The Poliquin Principles, 'Ten Hamstring Training Tips
Tip 1: Select exercises for both functions of the hamstrings. Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology (MRI) has demonstrated that leg curls do only part of the job of recruiting the hamstring. For example, the Supine Leg Curl involves the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, sartorius, and gracilis. The Semi-Stiff Leg Deadlift and the Good Morning involve the adductor magnus, adductor brevis, biceps femoris, and semitendinosus. Therefore, yhour hamstring workouts should involve exercises for both the hip extension function (Good Morning and Semi Stiff-Leg Deadlift) and the knee flexor function (Seated and Prone Leg Curl
Found that statement through google, it seems to make sense, i definately get a different feeling when doing a curl and a SLDL.

Re: Ghetto GHRs

Yes poliquin talks some logic, if any of the above though I would hammer SLDLs over leg curl if exercise numbers are low
