![]() | Clean and Jerk - any good? Hi All, I've read a lot of great posts here about people's routines but I don't remember seeing anyone including the clean and jerk move in their training. Is this exercise any good? To me it looks like a good compound exercise but maybe there's some reason why people avoid it? Cheers, -zoidberg- |

![]() | Hi Deano, Here's a series of pics showing the move: http://www.eng.auburn.edu/users/simonton/wl/cj.html I was wondering if there was some modified version where you don't have to drop the weight but instead kind of do the move in reverse on the way down (controlled). Obviously this would limit the amount of weight you could use but I think it would still be a very good compound exercise working legs, midsection, arms and shoulders as well as a bit of cardio as a lot of movement is involved. Kind of like a deadlift that moves into a standing overhead press. The deadlift part wouldn't be too hard as the weight would be limited to what you can do with your upper body. Any thoughts / flames? -zoidberg- |

![]() | I don't ever read about the world's best pro bodybuilders using Cleans in their routines. This may be because of the high risk of injury involved, or maybe the move is meant to develop power, not strength. Whatever the reason, if it was that effective in building mass, you would probably hear about it being used. -Just a thought- |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I used to do them once a week. They are a great exercise for overall strength. This exercise taxed me more than any other exercise. It winded me too. Great stamana exercise and I dont see many people doing them nowdays. American Football players do these. Sprinters do these. I do them but I cant squat down that low like the guy did, which by the way has perfect form. It is a great exercise for core strength and stamana. |

| UK-Muscle Male Animal | I was told not to do cleans unless you could do the big plates. Only because with the smaller plates you have to bend over a bit to much. You could do deadlifts and standing cleans for starters. Dont get my wrong -z- I wasn't implying that you couldn't do them. That was for the beginners. Hackskii was right. Allot of football players and sprinters over here do them. Infact I can just tell by their routine what sport they do. Nice post -z- keep posting matey! ![]() |
