slow with muscle?

Hi
I was told this morning that by lifting heavy weights it can slow you down. I am a competitve kickboxer and want to get leaner, stronger and faster... I have been lifting heavy but wondering whether i should stop. I alternate my training each week. 3 sets of 12 one week, following 3 sets of 18 then 3 sets of 6. i repeat then this cycle. Any advice? Are there any exercises that would particularly benefit / hinder my training?

Can I ask how it would slow you down? I mean think about it? I can understand if you got to Arnies old size being a little slower....

more weight for you to move, it does slow you down (but depends on how much weight your putting on also)

Olymipic sprinters train with heavy weights for low reps. To gain explosive power and speed work on doing the concentic part of the movement explosively, obviously keep the negative slow and controlled.

Re: slow with muscle?

So I can continue to lift the weights without fear of getting slow but just concentrate on making the movements more explosive?

Re: slow with muscle?

I have been lfiting weights too and have also been told this when in my kickboxing class...however, I am not a competitive kickboxer so wouldn't really know / really be bothered if it did.
