![]() | My Story - Need To Bulk Up I'm 24 years old and over the past 6 months I've been on a diet and lost 3 stones. I was 14 stone and I'm now down to 11 stone and according to my BMI my weight is average for my height, I'm 5 foot 11. I now just need to TONE up and gain some muscle, but I can't afford to join a GYM. I've bought some YORK weights... the handheld ones with different weight discs. 7 KG max when using all the discs. (per dumbell). I also do sit ups, push ups and go on regular runs by the river. I understand I need to EAT a lot to start gaining the weight and to turn into muscle... Would it of been easier to do this before I lost all the weight or am I right in thinking that you can't turn fat into muscle. I've heard from people that you've got to eat about 4000 cals a day, how can you eat that much without you getting fat. I'm not a fussy eater and can eat almost anything... I take it it isn't just a case of snacking non stop on Junk Food to get your calorie intake up to the required amount. Any advice would be most welcomed... But one last thing is it worth doing all this without access to a GYM. Last edited by N-I-C-K; 19-06-2008 at 07:58 PM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: My Story - Need To Bulk Up Nick you seem to have the right motivators however you need to do some research. 7kg DB's are NOT going to build a decent frame - period. You can get away with a decent bench/squat rack, DB's, barbells, and a nice selection of disks, more than you can comfortably handle. You cannot 'turn fat into muscle'. However you can increase your body's metabolism by adding lots of new lean muscle. This raised metabolism will mean it will be easier for you to keep lean. By the sounds of it you do not seem to have much LBM. Try to get in at least 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass, plenty of carbs. Work out at a very high intensity during your weight training, do regular cardio, with the added 'clean' calories you will discover that your body composition will slowly change. Get reading, there are some good stickies on here. Good luck. |

Pardon the expression but we work our a***s off in the gym! You need quality food, not junk, to build muscle. There is lots of good advice on this site. |
