| Shallow, one-dimensional, obsessive. | question about "rows" Someone on here once posted up "train like a power-lifter, eat like a BBer" and that is what I am trying to do. I train three times a week, once at the gym and the other times at home. The gym session tends to be a bit longer , because I can do stuff there I can't do at home.I do: Bench Military Press Squats Deads Bent-over Rows Upright Rows Good Morning Dips Lat-pulldowns (pull-ups when I get stronger )So, I do "bent-over rows" and also "upright rows". I am thinking about dropping the upright rows as I am trying to focus on the core lifts and keep my sessions short So, is it a mistake to stop the Upright Rows? I am training for strength "primarily" ![]() See my journal for more info on diet etc if you like. mark

If the answer is no than why are you doing them in the first place...If the answer is yes then are you getting the result you were looking for with this exercise....I think it is a good exercise but a very muscle specific one...From the info you've givin I would say it's prob OK to chuck it...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: question about "rows" Chop out the upright rows, too many rotator cuff injuries have been caused by this exercise. I can't imagine a power lifter would do this exercise regularly! Deads bent rows and military press will hit all the muscles an upright row will. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: question about "rows" DB deads will (or BB deads, but i prefer db) will hit rear delts and traps thus rendering upright rows surplus to requirement I would also be inclined to leave GMs out, put sldls in and add cleans if you are training for power Can do split squats and walking lunges for legs too http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html

| Shallow, one-dimensional, obsessive. | Re: question about "rows" Thanks Lost Soul. I do SLDL once a week and Deadlifts once also. Thanks for the pointer on cleans. I like GMs, but maybe don't need them. Lots to think about, thanks a lot. mark

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: question about "rows" GMs are ok there are just issues with safety when going heavy, SLDLs will recruit similar muscle groups and more poundage can be used as you progress have you thought about some overhead squats too? I like those http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...headSquat.html quads, delts, core all done in one clean the bar up, keep the weight low, nail the balance and they are nice

Or, a 2 day version would be the first two days, and you could change exercises a little to suit. that routine was given to me as a strength routine for rugby, looks good to me (i was stuggling to take exercises out ![]()
