breakfast before training

On the weekend i go to the gym early in the morning, i have my protein drink and my oats as soon as i wake up then go to the gym about 15 minutes later. When i'm in the gym though i start feeling sickly which i think is because of training so soon after eating.
My question is what does everyone else do, just put up with it or eat once you come back from training?

Re: breakfast before training

I mainly train in the morning after my 1st meal, but if i have oats they tend to make me feel bloated/sickly especially if leg or back day. But i couldnt train hard enough without having something to eat. Usually an hour is enough for me to hit the weights after my 1st meal as im usually hungry and it digests quickly. I guess 100g of oats just sits there a bit so if have them id have to wait a bit longer or have less.

Re: breakfast before training

i find that after breakfast i can get a better work out, i usually have porridge and a protein shake 1 hour - 90 mins before a work out before work. i'm quite fortunate in that the gym is 800 yards from work, but saying that it takes 40 mins to get to work :(. i find it can sit there if i work out less than an hour tho.

Re: breakfast before training

If you are weight training then you are better off having a large carb, medium protein meal and decide on choice or carbs in relation to how long before training you eat

no dont have eggs, i use tot rain at 6.30am for a year and made my best gains this way, I woke up at 5am, had a protein shake around 50 grams, down lots of water, then half an apple, as it digests quicker. Then rest at 6.15 drive down to the gym, and train at 6.30am, had lots of energy and was fine,

down some caffeine in the form of coffee before about 40 minutes before training and you'l, be fine.

if you have eggs or lots of solid food, it wnt digest in time

+1. 15 mins isn't very long, I think perhaps you should try leaving it a little longer so your stomach settles a little better.

Re: breakfast before training

You really need to get your energy source before you train. I also try and give it 45mins before going to the gym. For me on a gym day its:

6.00AM Oats / Coffee
6:15AM Shake
7.00AM Gym
8.00AM Shake

Sounds like all you need to do is either go to the gym a little later or get up a little earlier. Do you feel bloated after you have your shake as well or is it just feeling sick when in the gym?

Dont overanalyze, your body will get use to just having a protein shake, apple, caffeine. Weightlifters do similar.

even more rubbish...blood rush to stomach? what has that got to do with anything?

How about analysing...that is the correct information

How will frcustose in small amounts, fibre and a protein shake avoid hypoglycemia when weight training and provide enough carbs to complete a work out?

Re: breakfast before training

when the blood rushes towards the stomach, make you feel more tired. Giving it 2 hours rest means that the blood will flow properly all around the body, Ive done this 1 year training at 6.30am before 9am work and I had no problems.

Ive also use to squat around 140-160kg in training, and maxed at 180kg PB squat months ago, in the morning, on just a protein shake. The body gets use to it. Just toughen the mind !

This is on the advice of a world class powerlifter btw, so youre slating the advice, youre slating him.
