Muscle Fibre Types

Hey all, recently I've been reading about the slow twitch and fast twitch fibre types for training. Could anyone tell me what are examples of body parts which fall into the category of each?

Thanks.

Re: Muscle Fibre Types

It's different for everyone.

Generaly calfs are slow twitch, legs are mixed fibre as are shoulders, the other muscles depend very much on the individual.

There are tests you can do but in general it's best to start off training each muscle as if it's fast twitch and see which muscles respond and which don't.

Re: Muscle Fibre Types

It is different for everyone, but another general rule of thumb is hams are fast twitch, biceps fast, triceps slow, but there is no guarentee, it is all about genetics.

Slow twitch are also called type IA, and respond best to 50-60% intensity (1 RM), rep range of 12-20, they are usually more useful for endurance type things, long distance running for example.

Fast twitch are either type 2A or 2B, work best in either 70-80 % or 85-100% intensity, rep range 6-12, used in power movements.

There are ways you can test for your fiber type. It takes about a week though, but there really isn't any point unless you really are not making any progress.
