Seeing a show in real life is a completely different kettle of fish than watching on DVD/web cast or from photos. BBing is all about 'illusion' and the reality of it hits you in the face when you meet a lot of the competitors face to face. Personally, I think it would be very unwise to show up to do your first comp without ever having even attended a BBing show.

How would bodybuilding even without the drugs ever become mainstream? its always had a gay conection right from the begining. Come on Sandow was bi-sexual. why do you think he was buried in a unmarked grave? Look at the magazines like Strenght & health from the 30/40s its squarely aimed at the gay comunity. Its a lie to say that bodybuilding was ever mainstreem. Look at Arnolds performance in the Streets of Sanfransico, thats how the public saw bodybuilding in the 70s. It was always seen as a freaky subculture. Its a insult to true champions like Haney, Yates, El Sonbaty et all to say they ruined the sport - they were and still are bodybuilding for many people. Sure most dont want to look like them but then only a tiny fraction of the population ever had the potential to in the first place, its far easyer to look "classic" and conform to some crappy standard of beauty that socity has imposed upon not just women but also now men. It takes far more self sacrifice/dedication/ability to look like they did then any that came before them.

Actually, Haney was very aesthetically pleasing... Yates looked like crap. To even compare the two is absurd... Not even close... and then you put Nassar up there because he was 300 pounds doesn't help your case... He's another guy who when he first came on the scene looked fantastic. Putting those 3 in a sentence believing that I would see them all the same is a huge blunder on your part. Last edited by Tu Holmes; 14-05-2008 at 01:14 AM.

I feel that steroid use is a good thing... but it's abuse is horrible. I'm sure there is a fine line and I do not know where it is, but it is how I feel. I wouldn't consider myself natural either... but I certainly would never demean anyone who is a natural and would never say that a natural would never be anything compared to an IFBB pro. IFBB pros are simply the people who generally take the most drugs. There are exceptions... Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Rich Gaspari, Shawn Ray... These guys looked fantastic. If the IFBB wasn't all about "size" then Chris Cormier, Flex, Kevin, and Shawn would have all won a Sandow by now.
