Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

I am training for the army and i am going boxing as of next week and was just wondering if any of you guys have any ideas on what sort of push, pull, legs program i can do?

I want to basically go boxing Mon, wed, and Fri and then do a push, pull, legs on the remaining days apart from Sunday which i usually have as a rest day!

I want to do the boxing for cardio fitness for the army and i want to do the push pull legs for the strength that is required for the army as well!

So guys have you got any idea on what i can do for my push pull legs please as i have not done this sort of program before and i do not know what sort of exercises to put where, so any help will be appreciated

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

i was doing this until recently mate, just switched back to a more conventional split a fortnight ago for a bit of a change...but the push pull legs split is great for putting on mass, you could try something like this..

tues-push

bench press (3 sets 10/8/6 reps, heavy as possible)
military press (as above)
skull crushers (12/10/8...thats what i did, a bit lighter as my triceps respond more to volume than weight, but its up to you)
weighted dips (10/8/6)

thurs-pull
wide grip chins (5x5)
db bicep curls (10/8/6)
bentover rows (12/10/8...again up to you)
hammer curls (12/10/8)

legs
squats (10/8/6
leg extensions (10/8/6)
calve raises (3 sets of 12)
ham curls (10/8/6)

i do abs 1/3 day so tues/sat for you....hope this helps buddy.

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

forgot to say as well, i added deadlifts into my "pull" days every second session, was the first exercise in the routine, 2 light warm up sets (15 reps) followed by 3 sets heavy as possible 8/6/4.

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

Are you intending to do this training to make you more suitable for the army or for personal pleasure until you join?

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

TBH its both as i have been doing weights for a bit so i enjoy that but i am trying to also maintain/gain my strength for when i do go into the army!

I have been thinking of doing boxing for the army (cardio) and doing a push pull split for my own enjoyment and also for the strength tests and also because i am into weights personally!

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

Chris,i'd just be concerned with getting as fit as possible.

Basic training involves plenty of running and bodyweight exercises, concentrate on those.

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

yh i know thats why i am doing boxing as this is one of the best ways of doing that.

I just want to do weights s well as i love lifting and i know that you need to be strong for the army, and doing a push pull legs should run nice along it but of course that just MHO!

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

As i have not got the paper that it is wrote on, the guy at the army place took my height and then also weighed me and then told me i was over weight

He said that it didn't matter i could do the run in 12 minutes, he couldn't put me forward if my BMI was too high.

He told me to go away and get down to i think it was around 12-13st something like that.

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

push/pull/legs is pointless for the army, hence why i asked why your doing it

if your BMI is too high, circuit train your way to the weight they like

bodyweight stuff, SAQ, callisthenics, fartlek training, steady runs, box jumps

that puts you where you need to be, the weight training in the gym is for your own pleasure, not providing fitness for purpose which is what you require it seems

Re: Push, Pull, Legs any ideas?

I like using weights though thats the thing as its something that i have enjoyed now since doing it, as i also for my own circumstances want to have a well developed body in terms of i want to get to the weight that they want but i still want my own muscle if you understand what i mean.

So what would you suggest that i do instead of the push, pull, ;egs then on the days that i am not circuit training for boxing?
